I use to think Phoon but the FG is a much better car, if you can get a fully optioned FG for the same price then your laughing.

The main differences is the brakes and turbo, IMO the difference in brakes is very noticeable but having said that the FG's don't really seem bad enough to concern me. As with turbo yeah you will have to spend minimum 2.5k to upgrade it if you want over 340 where as you don't with the BF that's just fact take it or leave it. The FG feels like alot quicker car but I don't know if it actually is or not, oh and don't forget BF's just ran out of warranty too which is a biggy for some people.

If it was between them too for around 35k I'd take the FG, the harder choice I think is between a fully optioned MK2 BF (which is basically a phoon without the bodykit or brembo's) for 25k or an un optioned FG for 35k, as we all know if you spent the 10k difference on the BF it would wipe the floor with the FG.

The BF (even in R spec) came in last when I bought. Would have got the VE SS over it. It felt even older than it looked by comparison to both the Late model camira and FG and the one I looked at had done under 25k, was a one owner, and immaculate.

I don't think there would be too many that if being honest, would hang onto their BF's if they could upgrade to an FG - in anything (ute, sedan, FPV). And the brake issue on FGs is just BS. Just fit upgraded pads and slotted rotors! You can do the whole car for around a grand with EBC Reds and Gold series DBAs which unless you're doing track work, is more than adequate.

Yes you can throw 10k at a typhoon and it will make more power, but it will still look and drive like a 10yo car - it's that simple.

I have a BA typhoon and I wouldnt trade on an FG. I dont like the shape and Iam not the only one. My car is a 2005 so it only 5 years old.

Lol, nuff said.

And I don't think anyone can honestly disagree but to answer the OP's original questions..

Would like to hear real world opinions on which would be a better car as a base for the power I want to achieve. I think both look great but I'd like to know which with be the better overall package (handling, brakes, build quality, ect)?!

Steve

It would have to be the Typhoon.

Horses for courses

Both have the sameish engine and driveline. The FG has the better chassis and interior. 09 and onwards less faults. BF will lose less % wise now on resale. I think the BF's look tougher but the FG is.

The FG might be newer but it still has the same problems and a few more as the BF hahahaha.... Engine oil leaks, diff bushes splitting, interior trims distorting, door lock actuators failing,4 different possible AC problems, brake shudder, the harsh back off jerk in the 6spd auto, bad axle tramp in the manual, bluetooth and ipod dramas just to name a few. Dont get me wrong,I love my Ford but the FG does have its problems aswell.I honestly would choose the latest virgin BF XR6T with the least amount of kms I could find and spend the difference on sharpening up brakes, suspension and power. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the input! I got to drive a BF Typhoon a few days ago and really liked it but the FG had a much better feel to it in my opinion. Interior is much nicer too, BF was showing its age but still a REALLY nice car that is hard to fault. Hard decision in the end.

Anyway I should be buying an FG XR6 Turbo in the next week or so...cant wait!
