I'm very keen to see some of these failed bearings. I'd me more than happy to inspect any failed wheel bearings and post up pics and a report on here for everyone.

75000k's might have to change mine just for the sake of it.

I have been told the Wheel bearings at the back are different from the ute/wagon due to it being an IRS design, and are actually part of the differential/drive unit thus cannot be pulled out and greased like the old falcons, can anybody elaborate on that??

I'm also told that the front bearings do not need to be serviced or greased since it is a rear wheel drive vehicle, so is the front wheel bearings a disposable unit??

Help would be appreciated as I'm always being told different things and its bloody annoying :turboboink:

The front bearings that came out of my sedan were greased, so the lads at XFT greased the new ones and put them in, if that helps.

So the front ones are disposable units also?

If they weren't then u'd only have to replace the gasket and apply grease and put them back.

So how many k's do u manage to get out of em' before u have to start replacing it??

Mine were done at about 100,000. Front right was real bad, wheel could be tilted when on hoist.

It was so gradual I never noticed. Grinding sound/feeling when braking. Need a good road to pick it I think. When they were changed I noticed the much smoother sensation though...still didn't fix my brake shudder however, next job is the front bushes...

100thou they would be totally stuffed. 20,000k's and they are done if you drive hard and have decent brakes and tyres. They are so "Soft" for ride quality and NVH. Bimmers ones cost a lot more. And the way they are engineered they put less pressure on the bush.

So buying something "cheaper" doesn't necessarily mean it is actually "cheaper" after all :pleasantry: I can see why a Bimmer 5 series cost twice as much as a falcon equivalent, ie. everything under the chassis seem 2X thicker, they even have a body brace on each side of the boot!!

So what do u guys suggest what to look out for in the brakes/chassis department the front bearings, rear and front bush (my brake discs are due pretty soon I think its already cracked)
