Changing pressures sometimes helps but if its the standard Dunlops, then theres your problem.Rotate them front to back see it it helps. If worse comes to worse, remove the wheels completely and run on the rotors for a while. Will stuff ya car but the hum will be gone. lolNo seriously, it will be the tyres. Lifetime Members 1,122 Member For: 17y 14d Gender: Male Location: Greenvale, Victoria Posted 14/01/11 01:24 AM Share Posted 14/01/11 01:24 AM I am going to sound like a broken record here. I am not sure what the Fgs have as standard tyre and some will shout me down. But the standard Dunlop SP 3000 that were fitted to the BF were hopeless. When I got my car with 8000k on it, I took it back to the dealer at least 3 time due to the vibration/noise int he front end. It honsetly made the car unpleasant to drive. I fitted Yokahams on it, cant remember the type and it was heaven....just didn't have any grip. With ANY noise that increases with speed theres two possible caused. Something vibrating from airflow, or something that is moving with movement of the car, IE, Tyres/wheels. bearings, break rotors. Obviously there can also be vibrations from loose components such as suspension or enging component. But if its road spee and not engine speed related you can discount that.Easiest way to test for tyres is to go to your dealer (if its still under warranty) explain the situation and if the service manager is a half decent bloke he will fit wheels from another car and take tyou for a test run. Either that or you can borrow someone elses wheels and try that. that's what I did.If its not tyres then it could be rotors, berings and the lis goes on.Airflow. Look ar bonnet protectorsm loose body work etc. Im telling to to suck egss I guess but the thing is with any noise, you have to be open to the possibility it may not be what it sounds like. Guest XR09 Guests Posted 14/01/11 02:42 AM Share Posted 14/01/11 02:42 AM Tyres for mine. The bridgestone rep at work told me this is happening a fair bit. New tyres with the block patterns on the outer egde. If they are underinflated for the CAR & weight it's carrying. The leading edge of the following block is higher than the trailing edge of the previous. Causing a vibration at low speeds and a drone at highway speeds.A simple way to check is to run your hand backwards over the tread. If the leading edge is up you will feel it.He said you can try to over inflate them on a hot day and go for a long drive to try and wear the edge down. Or a damm good burnout But mostly they are stuffed. I played with defferent pressures. But I disagree with the over inflation as this causes the middle of the tyre to wear. I would have thought you run them under inflated as the over deflection from the downforce of the rim wears the outside of the tyres.Sorry if I lost people there. But good to know the manufacture agrees theres a problem. I can get up to say 105km/h it makes the noise but if I take my foot off the throttle it goes away instantly. I experimented with it by tapping the throttle on and off at the same speed, and sure enough the noise comes and goes. This definitely leans me towards the diff. Could also be wheel earing. I say that because I was always told a goo test to see if a bearing is gone (and again, I'll stand corrected) is, if you hear noise, turn the car from one side to the other and when you put weight on the wheel with the crook bearing, the noise lessens or dissappears. But I think your behond that.Has the diff or diff bush been serviced or replaced? I have a nylon diff bush in now and it is noisier, but I know its a stronger product and so I dont mind. Plus, a good Acca Dacca song gets rid of anynoise. lolBut again, tryes. Mine really only made a real bad noise as I decellerated past, say 43 ks.But mine was more of a vibration I guess. Have you sat in the back while someone else is driving? You could also try removing the back bottom seat (Its just clipped in) and see if its loader without the deadening affect.
