The wheel isnt hitting the housing but it is whiring for about 20 secs or so when you shut down...The car now has 110kms on it running 12lb boost.Should I be thinking about getting it rebuilt? F6turbo Member 172 Member For: 18y 9m 4d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 03/01/11 01:10 AM Share Posted 03/01/11 01:10 AM You are supposed to hear the turbo winding down on shutdown. But has the noise changed over time? The wheels dont have to be hitting the housings to indicate there is something wrong, by that stage you have done some damage. I guess it sounds like these is sand in the bearings. Start of with an oil change and see what that does, if you think there is a problem have someone look at it. It will work out cheaper to fix if you catch it early on.

Posted 03/01/11 04:11 AM Share Posted 03/01/11 04:11 AM How is a fully functional turbo supposed to sound on shutdown? I give up?.... Mines got an Earls filter deal on it and oil is 5W50 Nulon every 5000kms.....Only started hearing the noise in the last 5000 ks or so...never was noticable before If the wheels and housings have not been damaged you could just get the bearing pack replaced and have the turbo balanced again. Will cost half of a new $1200 core.If I remove the turbo myself.....Can you tell me whereabouts in Sydney can I get this done?.....thanks.

What do you know about my setup?I accidently quoted youit was meant for the thread starter.the only way is you can pull it out, have a look, clean the blades up, its a mechanical device so any carbon buildup heat oil can cause it to get dirty and everything, it might just be something simple.. so dun run off and spend 1000 odd dollars like some ppl say you shouldif you have some technical experience pull it off and open it up give it a clean, check for damage slap it back on try again, change the oil and all do EVERYTHINGyourself before u spend that money...researc research research about troubles and fixing turbos off the net, cause I know for sure , you'll take it there n your going to get charged hard.remember turbos arent something from another galaxy, its a mechanical part that takes year 10 students/sweat shop workers to build... spend some quality time and get into it.. u'll learn alot instead of chucking money straight away. Not like the usual whirl-down sound I get. I called Turbo-Tech as they are only up the road from me and the price for a replacement is basically the same as a rebuild give or take $200 or so. I might take it off and give it a clean and see if that makes a differance.Worst case I will prob give Xtreme Ford Tuning a call as another poster suggested to see what options I might have. Thinking if I need a new turbo I might as well spend a little more on other bits done at the same time and have some more power.Anyway I will probably have to wait till Feb before I can afford this as the turbo's looking like its at least going to be $1500+ which I just spent on xmas/holidays.Cheers for the replies Edited 09/01/11 08:24 AM by iotlek
