Have you investigated having a professional studio do this for you? If they are treasured memories, surely you want the best from them? I investigated doing this with all of old 6x4 photo's, and in the end its cheaper and much better quality to get it done by a pro. And no time wasted by you.

Plenty here.

Perhaps a Video Capture Card in your PC could be a good start should you wish to do this at home yourself...

Nobody has mentioned that he does not have a HI8 Cam anymore, so any caputre device will not work unless he can get something to play the tapes on.

I would suggest you go to the many conversion places or keep an eye on ebay for a Hi8 cam, as this is the first problem.

Most Hi8 will plug into Firewire on a PC and then you will need a application as mentioned above.

If you have a video recorder (one that can record/play onto the tapes) then I can do this for you. There's a unit I have that was about $90 that allows you to plug in any video input and then it plugs into a PC via USB. Then the software takes care of putting it on a DVD for you.

Hope that makes sense, sorry but it's been a long work day. PM me if you want more info.

Edit: just saw above post. Definitely get your hands on a second hand camcorder. It will be by far the cheapest way.
