Definitely get them to replace them, same symptoms I had, rattle and lots of dust. You may find it helps the vibrations as a bonus. Also check the work when the car is cold. At first they just replaced the belt and idler pulley on my ute and the rattle went away. But as soon as I started it from cold the next day it was back again. The tensioner needed replacing as well.

thanks rancid, I'll keep it in mind when I talk to them...

one thing I dont like though is going into a workshop saying "I have theses problems and these are my suggested solutions"... sure fire way to get someone on the defensive... lol

I usually act all dump and say "this this this and this is wrong, please fix it sir"... and then when they come back with their response, I'll go back to them with a "have you thought about this? or could it possibly have anything to do with this?"...

its a waste of time, but its the best way I've found to deal with these numpty's... :(

the one problem I had with my TRD's engine, (long story short) they tried to blame it on my aftermarket exhaust and the cats had failed... so I questioned them about it and they admitted that it has nothing to do with my exhaust and the cats are actually fine and havent failed...

turns out the belt needed replacing...

I think all manufacturers are the same mate, they will get away with it if they can.

A mate of mine has a new SR5 Hilux, took it to Toyota for its usual maintenance check up, the nuffas who had no clue thought it would be a good idea to flash his ECU with the latest update, they botched it and fried his ECU! that's right they couldnt get back into it to flash it back to the old tune!!! :roflmbo:

Long story short it took Toyota 5 weeks to get a new ECU module for his 3000Km old car, talk about being :tab:

so I took my car to southside ford and was VERY impressed with their service...

even though they didnt fix all of the problems, they at least tried to give it a really good test and then explained to me why they couldnt fix it in great detail...

here are the outcomes:

These are the current problems and have existed since about 5-6,000kms:

- Stereo screen wont show the MP3 off the iPod sometimes. It just goes blank.

I have the latest module. I tried to replicate it for them, but I couldnt. (just my luck! lol).

They said that if it happens again, to come back without turning the car off. hasnt happened yet.

- A/C condensation leaks into the drivers footwell

the pipes that come into the cabin from the engine bay is next to the heater pipe. they've put extra thick foam insulation between the pipes and they said that it should stop the problem now. I havent sees anymore water.

- Oil leaking from the turbo into the intake pipe. (the joins of the I/C piping is wet with oil)

the foreman recognized that the amount of oil leaking is not normal and needs to be dealt with. but he said that its out of his hands and that garrett and ford have the final say. he did say that they usually come back and say "check the state of the pipes every 15,000kms"... so looks like my mods have been delayed for a while now. :( so I'll just follow up with them in a week. :)

- Cold start idle is rough. I'm talking ROUGH. It's like I have a massive cam in an old school v8. Without any exaggeration, the whole car shakes on idle. *BRUP BRUP BRUP*

again. the foreman recognized that there is a problem, but he doesnt not know of any fixes. he has checked the internal forums they have and has seen that other people have suffered the same problem. however no one lists a fix! he said that he'd let me know if they can figure it out.

- Traction control. What traction control? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I'm not saying that I dont enjoy the odd tail happy drive here and there, but if I want to do that, I do it in a safe spot with traction control off. Not at 5am going to work around a roundabout when I'm half asleep. :(

impossible to replicate. hasnt happened in a while though. so I just told them to 'forget this one'.

- Backfiring. After a short spirited drive, if I back off after a gear change its quite common for it to backfire. (no, I'm not talking about the ZF box doing its three little pops during a gear change, I'm talking about a full on POP)

quite normal apparently due to how rich they are in factory tune... apparently when you're 75% throttle or more for a short amount of time and you back off all of a sudden, the computer is pumping in a lot of fuel, so it just dumps it as its not being combusted... dont know how true this is, but it sounds plausible to me.

I've never had it happen and haven't heard of anyone but you so I'd keep pushing. Speak to ford directly?

Secaboy, I can think of nothiong more annoying mate. Seriously. A couple of those things just don't sound right. The backfiring? What? Normal? On a new emission compliant car? WTF? I mean really, WTF?

If it was me I would write a very well worded letter (let me know, I am DYNAMITE with a pen) to Ford and basically tell them what youve said hgere....The TRD AUrion was a dream compared to this POS. They will HATE that.

I'd write to them and demand this bee looked at and I'd even mention the word "LEMON".

Mate, IMO not good enough.

Glad you god some things fixed, but backfiring? My 370 rwkw with a 4" exhaust NEVER backfires even after I can the thing. Yeah its tuned but surely standard doesnt run THAT rich.

Ford you either get a good car or a bad one, their QC can be abysmal. Dealerships are just the same either great or absolutely fcuking hopeless :icon_ford::icon_ford: Sometimes its easier to just get rid of the thing and have another go.
