rjn,

I've experienced this exact problem since I got my auto XR6 n/a with LSD 6mths ago. After 6 (yeah, I've got extreme levels of tolerance!) visits to various dealers, they've identified that the computer (PCM) needs changing, as well as the valves in the transmission. That's happening this week. Will advise if it works.

rjn,

you've got what I had or now my SWMBO has in her AU. My dealer told me it's in the axles/diff centre but when they measured it the tolerances fell into the acceptable levels.

I have had a clunk when manually making the 2-3 shift since new.

After a few dealer visits, they finally changed the S5 solenoid in the tranny which was a recommendation from a BTR representative. It has made an improvement but I can still make it clunk (surprisingly, seems to happen more often if you accelerate in 2nd, take your foot off the accelerator and then shift to 3rd). I have also noticed the clunk when 4-3 changing on the highway and agree that shifting into perf mode to perform the same gear change is much smoother. Will mention it again at the 15K service (4K to go) but no issues when in auto mode.

Same here - I drive a lot in manual mode but I have a lot of trouble getting a smooth change from 2nd to 3rd. It's like you have to have the revs spot on to do it. I suppose I'll get the hang of it as I've only done 3,800km.

Had the work done last week. Gear changes much smoother, but not 100% satisfied. Certainly the kick down from 3rd to 2nd is smoother. However, when doing 60km/h (the legal limit of course) in auto-mode and feathering the throttle, there's a weird sensation that resembles a flat spot or flaring/slippage in the transmission.

Will monitor and probably GBTD (Go Back To Dealer - my abbreviation since I seem to be there every 2nd week).

Drive about 90% in Manual mode with the SSS. you will get a modicum of shunt if you shift down at very low revs , particularly from 3rd to second.

It is however most prevalent if you change from manual to auto( RDP) after coming to a complete halt.

Solution = treat it mean ,no probs when being given some. LOL. It is supposed to be a performance car , seems to like it a lot better punching another gear ( up or down ) @ higher revvs.

Had the beast 7 months , still cant get enough

I've just got the clunk when changing at certain revs (still trying to find out which revs). It just started after 19,000kms.

The reverse gear engaging disengaging causing the diff to clunk has been there since day one. No one knows what it is, not even BTR.

This annoys me more than anything to be honest.

Dealer told me to make sure the handbrake was on before putting it in Park to avoid this but it doesn't prevent it. He believed it was the car moving back/forward after Park was engaged. What concerns me is that sometimes I can actually feel a fair bit of resistance when I shift from Park to Reverse, followed by the accompanying thump. Other times, it's as smooth as silk. On one occasion it was so bad, my passengers even commented on it.

Any other takers on the "reverse thump"?

I've been offered a new transmission because of it.

I don't want to go through with it though till the car is almost out of warranty.

The running in of the new tranny would kill the power I've built up already. I think anyway, if this isnt the case pls let me know.
