Guest Mr Walker Guests Posted 05/03/03 03:13 AM Share Posted 05/03/03 03:13 AM Hey Ninka,Get 'em to adjust the diff backlash while you're at it! I realise that this won't happen as they will probably just replace the whole diff. My car has a whine around 85 - 90kms too. I think Scott 52 had the same problem - what is it with WA cars? Do you and Scott want to catch up and compare notes - I would be interested to know if the whine and driveline shunt in my car is the same/ better/ worse than yours. I have also noticed imperfections in the paint from what I think is train brake dust. I remember Scott52 talking about this - did the dealer end up buffing/ detailing your car to get rid of this? Centre Ford say the rail dust is a common problem. I can't understand why Ford don't do something about it. I'm happy to catch up with you and Ninka and compare notes. what area do you live in and work in?. I'm currently living in Morley and my office is near the domestic airport terminal.cheers, scott

Also, it developed some sort of grinding vibration in the diff when driving very slowly, like into a driveway.I feared the worst, but I got an auto transmission service with new oil, and had the auto adjusted somehow (I think something to do with the electronic shift protocol), and it's now genuinely as smooth as if brand new. As for the diff, the same guys who did the auto drained the diff oil and replaced it with a special synthetic limited slip diff oil. The diff oil was bloody pricey ($40 or so), but the diff is now as smooth a silk. Can't remember the exact brand of oil, but I can probably find out if anybody is interested. The whole job cost me only $200 also.I realise these problems may be a bit different to simple driveline backlash, but I just thought it was worth a mention. So, if your cars have similar problems to the above, don't despair.........it may be simpler than you thought.
Guest Mr Walker Guests Posted 06/03/03 06:12 AM Share Posted 06/03/03 06:12 AM Thanks Scott,I'm working in Welshpool at the moment and I live in Duncraig. I'm probably going to be tied up for the next couple of weekends. Maybe we could catch up when the motorshow rolls into town - I think that's in early April but I'm not sure. Centre Ford rang to say the problem is registered with Ford, but they are not replacing it at the moment until they sort out BTR. they are not going to put another diff in until they are sure the replacement won't end up with the same problem. mine is just one of many that have the same issue. the car is booked in for next week to have the paintwork buffed and polished. they are even giving me a loan BA Futura for two days! IT IS WORSE THAN THE OLD ONE Titan Ford had not heard any of the info Scott52 mentioned that Centre Ford had, and my service adviser was really pi**ed off.I guess I will now have to live with the retro sound of a 1950's tram around 85-95 kph, until the problem can be sorted out between BTR and Ford! But really guys, how hard can it be to make a reasonably quiet diff. in 2003?? (oh sorry, mine is 2002 build, maybe that's the problem)
