Guys,

My dealer (Lynford) is as ill informed as most out there which suprises me as most are a part of the 'auto alliance' over here so they should all get the same info. It's not their fault - they just don't get informed. I'm sure that Ford don't send out a bulletin unless they really have to. I'll wait and see how you go Scott52, then I'll inform my dealer about Ford's updates etc as I've had to in the past.

Ninka, as I said I'll be out of action for a couple of weekend but let's catch up after that.

Like I've mentioned until the diff supplier sort out the quality control issue replacing the diff wont' do anything apart from putting in convienience to yourself. Like I mentioned before that's why I've just let mine be. I have been in a BA XR8 Manual and after 200km I noticed it was starting to do the same clunks as mine.:blink:

Guys,

Can you believe this? I am still driving a '98 AU1XR6 VCT which had and still has the clunking diff.problem. However after new drive shaft, balancings, replacement of diff., new oil the whole works it has got better but still rears its head on occasions. As I had bought the first run of a new model (4 years ago) I was due for a new BA XR, however having been 'burnt' by this problem previously (was never happy with it and would have been even more worked up if I had got a BA with exactly the same problem) I promised myself that I would never buy the first run of a new model again and have waited patiently to see what would surface with the BA XR, and here we go again.

Ford would have spent '000's trying to rectify the clunking diff on the AU, which they knew about right from the start, yet why they have not sorted this out on the BA, specifically more so the supplier BTR would have known the problem back then so why carry it over into the BA.

All I can say is that I will continue to patiently wait until these problems are ironed out before committing to a new XR.

As I mentioned much earlier I too have this problem in my AU XR6, but am wondering if it is just in the XR's or all Falcons? Maybe it has to do with the LSD in the XR's? Anyone know if it happens on XT's and Futura's? Mine went back to the dealer about a dozen times and had everything replaced but never fixed, so now I just have to live with it...Can't beleive they let it go on this long! 5 years!

Ford would probably say it is not a carry-over problem, as the crown wheel and pinion, and the hemisphere, are a different series and design to AU. It is no defence, however, and most companies only upgrade product to fix problems and make improvements. This situation really needs attention.

On the matter of this problems' apparent prevalence in XR models, I wonder if this is due to a) The problem being more apparent in manuals, and a higher proportion of XR cars are manual compared to other models? B) XR drivers being possibly a little more in tune to their car as a performance machine, unlike the shopping trolley steering masses?

Mate is your car a manula or an auto.

If its a manual have you noticed any difference in driveline snatch between the two diffs?

I had a new diff put in today by Blacklock Ford in Wodonga. I knew there was a whine but it took a while for the mechanic to find it. It is noticable when driving steady on a bit of an incline.

It is perfect now. Those of you who think you have a whine in the diff, believe it because its common. Ford will change it if you ask them and when they hear it for themselves.
