You will fry first gear with or without it, even on a roll on first wont hold WOT. It can be used but I dont see it making your launch any faster. Also you have let the clutch out slowly to make it nice. Would need new tires right off the bat to make it worth while because the standard ones are shocking. Didnt seem that good - I used to have an Evo VI before - and 7000 rpm launches were a piece of cake for it, not to mention they would nearly snap your neck!!I think I am leaning more towards the auto now.Thanks for the input guys - any more would be much appreciated. Rusty XR6T Donating Members 516 Member For: 14y 10m 13d Gender: Male Posted 08/12/10 10:18 PM Share Posted 08/12/10 10:18 PM I have a manual, best thing ever, I come from a long line of autos and cant help but to fall asleep.I like to do a lot of twisty driving on weekends so you cant beat the manual for that, the fact that when you get in trouble and need to downshift and it happens instantly is a real help for me, waiting for the auto would surely send me off the edge of the cliff plus in traffic when a w*nker is riding my ass I like to do a compression lock up on him, give him a bit of a scare.The launch control is a gimmick mate, its not real launch control, I cant remember exactly what its called but it was explained to me that the car holds the rev there because of something to do with the turbo and the engine not being under load, correct me if im wrong fellas I tend to launch at around 2500rpm well under the "launch control", I get good grip, and a fantastic launch, well enough for a 1.98 60 ftI don't mind the box, everyone complains about the heavy rollover of the gears, but hey it needs to handle a lot of power and torgue, the cars not a suzuki swift.I was told I will never be as fast as an auto on the qtr mile yet I have a 12.89 with stock engine and street tyressometimes its just nice to keep a legacy alive, by the time our kids come around they wont even know how to drive a manual... I have cousins who are just getting their licenses now and only have auto's, because their parents only have autos. I put my cousin in my car to take around the block on her L's and she couldnt even get out of the garage At the end of the day, its all personal preference, the auto guys will blast the manual guys and vise versa, good luck with your choice, either way your going to love it Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rusty XR6T Donating Members 516 Member For: 14y 10m 13d Gender: Male Posted 08/12/10 11:46 PM Share Posted 08/12/10 11:46 PM im not so sure an auto will always be faster (in terms of a stocker), I can get a better 60ft over the auto due to the fact that a manual has a lot more control, an auto has control as to how hard the accelerator is pressed... wheel spin here will always be an issue.The gears changes are arguable and heavily dependent on the driver, a light clutch press and a flat shift gets me pretty close to the auto gear changes the triple synchros between 1st, 2nd and 3rd help with this immensely. but yer the 10yr old discussion will go on for ever if your not buying the car for specifically qtr mile times then its all personal preference Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
