Hey guys,

I just had pedders replace my diff mount bush and control arm bushes & I think they did some other bushes too...

also had sports ryder shocks fitted.

I was told the knock/clunk from the rear on gear changes was caused by a shagged diff mount bush, so I spent $1650 having it all replaced & the clunk is still there!!

Any ideas as to what it could be??

I had a rubber diff mount bush fitted on pedders' reccomendation as I didnt want added NVH, all other bushes are urethane.

Any help would be great on this one as I cant really afford the $900 labor to have it all pulled back out for diagnosis!!

Thanks in advance,

Craig

More than likely the backlash will be in the diff itself - the bushes will help, but they are only one part of the problem

Hopefully im not up for a new diff... but if I am, what can ya tell me about the kaaz units??

a coupla of mates have em in 383 stroker commodores & rave about them, but I drive the car to work everyday??

Thanks again bud!

Yeah, Kaaz centres are great units, very positive, but can be a little harsh depending on how you like your cars.

Having the factory LSD re-shimmed and the crown wheel and pinion lapped may be a better solution - although may end up costing somewhere around the same money - let us know how you go mate.

Mine does the same thing under light throttle. Too many c.vs in the driveline so when they all have slight backlash,it causes a knock/clunk as they all take up. Put it on a 4 post hoist and check how much backlash the diff has in comparison to the rear halfshaft c.vs. You will probably find a bit in them also.

thanks guys, it's going to the diff shop today..

fingers crossed that it's not the diff but if it is I'll look at a kaaz, can get a kaaz centre for $1295 plus tax & fitting!!

Ive had the same problem mate with my BA . Annoying isnt the word. Fully rebuilt my Auto , changed the Rear diff bush and reset the shift patterns to factory just in case the previous owner mucked around with them. And after all that I STILL HAVE THE DAMN DIFF BACKLASH !!!! Rebuilding the auto helped a bit , mainly by eliminating the delayed backlash , but its still there. Im at a loss especially after having Racv, Ford Foreman , another diff/auto specialist AND a performance garage look at the problem and basically scratch their heads saying all the bushes and cv joints look ok and also diff has normal limits of play. This aggravating backlash ruins the pleasure of driving an otherwise awesome performance car. Personally im at a loss , and also out of $$. Also blew my new 20in rim and tyre last week too hitting a pothole in the middle of the damn city in Melbourne ... $670 to replace. ! Its turning onto a love hate relationship with this xr6t , my first performance car .

I know how ya feel man.. its just heartbraking sometimes.

Im trying to save my house deposit but it keeps getting eaten by the car!

So it turns out that my auto, rebuilt 6 monthst ago, was full of water.

They tell me the cooler in the radiator cracked, & showed me the pink thick shake in the coolant reservior..

I had them flush everything out, coz I'm not spending another $2.5k on the auto... instead I'll start saving for a t56 conversion.

As well as the kaaz diff centre, front suspension, and then the engine.

She will be a brand new car by the end of 2011 and ill get another 100,00km out of it hopefully!!

well I wish you all the best with that. I paid $2200 for a stronger than factory 4spd auto rebuild to handle around 280 rwkw comfortably, but the base rebuild is only $1600 , and I got a trans cooler and a free diff oil change after 1500 klms.
