Some colours (Citric Acid, Blood Orange, Acid Rush) alreay have a painted engine bay while others such as Phantom have a matt black bay.

GP posted a while back on FF saying they were gearing up to paint ALL XR/FPV engine bays in body colour compete with top coat which nobody gets now unless thay have pics of a Ford exec in a compromising situation (or a Really on the inside) They were planning on starting this around the end of the year l believe.

Was there a extra cost for the engine getting sprayed...

I read GPs post as well. But he mentioned they were planning for Sept 03.

This never happened, so as it closer to my build date I asked the dealer to ensure mine gets coated the same as the exterior - blueprint. No arm twisting was required, I even called 13FORD several times and they had it on their build sheet to spray the engine bay. It is an Oct 03 build and I picked it up last week.

The engine bay was sprayed as my request. No extra charge, I even got a great price on the car, best in town that no-one could beat with all my options. So I think at the moment you need to ask or wait untill it is official.

I plan to wash the T today and post some pics, inc. her shining engine bay.

Cheers all.

All XR models are now clear coated in production(mid to late Oct). The colour in the engine bay is actually tinted undercoat, not the same as the exterior paint. They look a lot better clear coated. But be aware, theyre not pretty.(in other words they clear coat over everything). If it's in the way,it gets coated.

I have ordered a Black XR6T. So... looking at these problems either I would be ok. I still spoke to the dealer who advised me that since Mar/Apr this year they have been putting matt coat of your paint in the engine bay. I just hold my breath. Its up to the Ford production line.... Expect mine late Nov or early Dec...

Hmm I wonder if I should stall the order for Jan... nah. can't wait.

On delivery I will let you know if matt or clear or what I get.

Far as I know I went to my local ford dealer just for a look around because I can't wait an longer for mine to come which is in 10 days I have been waiting 6 weeks, and I saw a Xr8 Ute with the bonnet up, and when I looked in the engine bay the colour was the same as the exterior with the clear looked mean. I seen some ages ago but that was done only if you knew someone who works in the paint shop who could spray it wright through. So I am guessing mine will be sprayed because its a NOV build hopefully will let everyone know if it is.

Well, my bay is blood orange like the exteriour, just not clear coated. I have no complaints. Even some friends of mine who have looked in the engine bay say that it still looks nice and neat even if it isn't clear coated. I tend to agree.

well, I've always prided myself on how shiny, and neat and clean my engine bays look, I polish them as much as I can and it's easyer to spot problems, because there's no oil spats or dust or fluid. And you can easily play detective when your clean enginebay becomes greasy. My little 1972 Leyland Mini Clubman 1100 will be fully redone up to original. It has no rust, all original parts, (including complimentary umbrella). It was won in a raffle by my grandma in 1972, and it's been used basicaly to the shop and back and sometimes to bowling, but she doesn't bowl anymore. I've got to get the bumpers recrhomed, but jeez they're straight as, and well looked after. A very nice car it is. And it's a spotless/clean polished up engine bay that makes all the difference. your car can be clean as, but without a showy engine bay, it won't look fully the part to me.
