Due for my 60,000kms service, so I decided to change my own oil, tighten all the (fingertight)exhaust manifold bolts, check turbo bolts etc.Items due for 60,000kms are:Clutch fluidBrake flushCoolantOilGeneral check over.Clutch fluid was replaced 15 months ago when my option 3 clutch was installed, coolant was changed 12 months ago while the engine was pulled down under warranty, and oil I have already done. Only thing I want is someone to flush the brake fluid and stamp the service book...But according to several respected servicing departments of different brands: "you do your own servicing, we wont stamp your book." I said, "its just oil""Doesnt matter, unless we do all those items, we wont stamp any book because we wouldnt have serviced it fully..."So, how do you guys have your books stamped that do your "own servicing" I.e change your own oil????? It annoys me that a lot of people on here think it's that simple.Stamping your log book is their signature to say THEY HAVE done the job as per the schedule.You can't possibly expect them to sign for work they haven't done! You can be a million times more competant than some so called mechanics, however if you you don't have a piece of paper to back your work then no warranty. I'm an Auto Electrician and am more than capable of carring out a log book service, yet I don't have the correct qualification to validate a stamp in the service book. But I agree you can't have everyone that thinks because they have changed some fluids that they have carried out a service, but in 90% of the cases the owner has taken more care and done a better job than the 1st year apprentice at the dealship. Im just asking the guys who change their own oil - How do you then have it serviced without them changing your oil again, and get a stamp in the book???I dont claim to have serviced it myself. that's what the dealers are telling me because all I did was change the oil. ITS NOT SERVICED. I WANT IT SERVICED. MINUS OIL. But everyone wants to carry out every item before they'll stamp the book. that's fine, but I dont want to waste $75 of oil I just put in there.Now, the other items (coolant, clutch fluid) were all done by Ford and Mal Wood recently. So they dont NEED re-doing, but it looks as if they'll have to be just to get a stamp....BTW - its out of warranty. They can't take your word that you changed it because if you haven't it will come back to them. If the engine spins a bearing and you go back they'll say we didn't do the oil maybe you used the wrong oil bla bla bla, etc. No warranty. If you have a particular oil that you want to use and it is OEM rated then you can give it to them if they agree and they can minus the oil cost off the bill. In the past I have left the 15k oil change to Ford so there is no issue, and do the 7,500km oil change myself. Next time, I'll leave the 15k oil change to this guy as well....as long as I can supply the oil.All sorted. This is the first non-ford service, now its out of warranty. Soooo much cheaper. As you say it's out of warranty so its no biggy. But when it's time to sell it will be.The workshop manuals have service intervals and requirements in them.
