THe steel steam pipe manifolds are usually better after their second or third welding after many months of use. Cut a slit in the crack with a think cutoff blade and retig. I also cut the flange into three pieces to minimise stresses. THe good thing with steel is you can always reweld it. WIth stainless the metal changes its structure so it usually recracks more quickly.

One thing I cant work out is I had a log style manifold grow about 1cm in length that I had to shorten it. Still got me baffled.

less boost same power also brings it on boost earlier which is nice with the t04z internals

Interesting, I do know that etm had a 12 percent gain at same boost level. however I was not aware of it bringing in boost earlier....

are there any threads on this? I was umming and arring, but after hearing it brings boost in earlier I want one.

So with the exhaust manifold you have on in that picture, you were able to utilize a factory / aftermarket standard fitment dump pipe, in other words the dump I have now on my turbo with standard manifold wont have to be changed?

do they crack anymore or is that with the 1st ones being made? do the 6 boost come in only black?

I didn't think anyone made them.

I contacted 6boost, ETM and a few other suppliers a few years ago. None were interested in making a set for me.

Persisted to get ETM to make a set as an R&D exercise. After the 1st set had another made to a different piping design to suit a larger compressor cover.

Unfortunately both sets have cracked, and are off the cars currently.

There is a definite lack of space to fit them, tight bends are required, which is why the conventional solution/path is to a high mount design.

Brian

Im sure if you had spoken to ETM he would of repaired them for you, even though he explained to you when he made them that they would have no structural integrity.

ETM has a lifetime warranty.

I wasn't having a go at ETM, as I'm sure Leigh would have sorted them out.

I just treated it as an R&D exercise just to evaluate the performance difference, and I was grateful to Leigh for making them for me.

I had a zerosports SS set on my STi that was rewelded 3 times. No major issues there as they only took 5 minutes to get off the STi, and I used to take a spare manifold to the track.

For the Ford it is a much bigger task, and I haven't had the spare time to stuff around with cars the last 2 years.

The 6boost one looks good. Is that in the factory position?

Hey guys,

To answer a few questions raised in this thread, it is possible to build a manifold in the stock position on both the FG and the BF, each are different. Due to the position of the turbo in relation to the headplate, it is only possible to do certain things, such as the BF manifold can only be built split pulse, due to space constraints. I avoided doing these for a number of years, as if anyone knows me and my work, I am not happy to make compromises in design for the sake of building a manifold, and it was a mountainous task building what I would call a perfect manifold in the stock position, but it did end up being possible.

As far as the durability of steam pipe goes, I have customers that have performed 20000+klm's with heat wrapped manifolds (voids warranty, very hard on the structure) with absolutely zero issues, and I had one circuit car manifold come in that has been in use for 5 years heat wrapped and only just started to crack. As far as material goes, you won't find a better one on this planet that is cheap enough for commercial use, and in terms of cracking, if purchased from a reputable manufacturer, even should the worst happen it will be fixed free of charge, and it will certainly outlast any other custom manifold material 10:1 regardless.

People need to be aware of a few things when making the decision to upgrade the manifold however. If you are currently running a stock turbo with absolutely all the mods done to your setup, and making 400+rwkw, your not going to pick up peak power, at least not much if any. Why? Because your already out of turbo, the manifold can't make the compressor flow more. You will however not only make the same power on 2-3psi less boost, but in most cases will pick up 3-400rpm of spool.

In my opinion, an upgraded manifold is best coupled with an upgraded turbocharger. A slightly bigger turbo in the factory rear housing would normally be laggier, however when used with the quicker response of a manifold, can give you the same response as stock but with drastically improved power potential. We are working on a number of upgrades to fit in the stock rear housing all the way up to 600rwkw and will be doing testing over the coming months. When I have come up with a compilation of spool vs hp figures I will post a thread up for peoples viewing.

G'day 6boost, im very much interested in the quicker spool.

I have a gt 35/40 with a .7 comp cover. I want to keep it in the standard position as I dont want to lose my nizpro 4" dump pipe.

do you have some pics of customers cars with these manifolds on that you could put in this thread? it seems a few ppl are interested in these manifolds.

what kinda price could you do for me for a Dark blue set.

to retain the factory position does the manifold have to be upside down?

you reckon ill keep the same power on 2-3psi less?

3-400rpm faster spool? hmmm

also, what is the difference between split pulse and not?
