How does the Nulon oil go in the ZF transmission? I picked some up today, all 8 litres of it and when I got home I thought I should ask the bible that be this forum. Has anyone put it in before? On the back it say suited for ZF, so I assume they mean this gear box. Anyone dealt with it? THoughts?

I thought anything but original oil was a big no no... But don't quote me on that!

Id be careful or get more advice, I have not heard of people using the nulon oil in their ZF autos.

There is no rock solid answer unfortunately, everyone has their opinions

bump,

Just read the nulon site for their synthetic transmission oil and it says its not recommended for the ZF.

http://www.nulon.com.au/products/Full_Synthetic_Multi_Vehicle_Automatic_Transmission_Fluid/

Look under the product application link.

None of the oil makers recommend their oil for the ZF, be it penrite, castrol, nulon or whatever. I think basically it's because it needs to go under specific ZF testing to meet certain crap, and they probably dont' bother. It seems the search feature on this site is busted at present (I've tried using it past few days with zero results) but it would seem most people use Castrol Transmax Z with good results and no problems, also report better shifting too.

Have a read of some of the links on my post here

It would 'appear' the oil is pretty standard and actually inferior to some of the other options.

With regards to Nulon, I asked The BoxStop up here in QLD about a service/cost etc and they use/have used the Nulon in these apparently, so it should be ok.

I really think so much of the 'what oil' is simply the scare due to Fraud warranty denials and non listed 'suitablity' but oil manufacturers.

I'm about to do mine but plan on using Transmax Z only because it seems to be recommended on here and used by lots of people without issue. The Nulon stuff is about $10 cheaper per 10L though & Australian.

Ford's view is that the ZF is "sealed for life" from factory and doesn't need oil changes.

I've heard of people getting the box strengthened due to tuning and I think from memory they're using royal purple oil? Don't quote me though as I'd search for the particular threads but it's not working at the moment.

& by 'life' they mean the 3 years they have to fix the thing under warranty, after that they give no f_@k.

I look at it this way. They run clutch pack sort of setups in autos right? These obviously wear and the material contaminates the oil.

Being into bikes I know all to well how quickly wet clutch packs (sure not exactly the same) contaminate the oil.

Ive been running Nulon SIN ATF which David (blueboost) CPV Tuning recommended for almost 10 000km's and its fine, seems to shift smoother/better than stock.
