Depends on the wheel width mate... 20 with an 8.5 and 40 offset will probably mean the rim hits the upper balljoint if they are anything like BA's...

+35 is standard, so +40 and 8.5 in rim means they would sit in further...

I think with FG you can get 245/35/20s on the front, but BA you definitely cant as they scrub on the inside. You need 245/30/20s...

I would say test fit before buying! OR get a money back guarantee on them fitting your car before purchasing...

my 20x9 +35 fronts with 245 tyres practically touches something. There is an arm something or rather from the suspension with minimal gap, you would need feeler gauges to measure it. So I think you will need the 225s. Rim width doesn't come into it, 245 is still 245 on a 8, 9 or 10 inch rim.

Sorry dude but you obviously have NFI as to how offset and wheel width works...

Look it up on the net and do some research... If the offset is wrong it will bash into the upper control arm... And yes, that includes the rim... Trust me... Izzy tyres sent me a 20x8.5 with +45 offset and it hit on the RIM by about 4mm...

tech details aside a 40p offset will look GAY

isnt 36p the factory offset?

if your planning to have same width all around a 30p will work front and rear no scrubbing, I run 25p on the front 245/35/20x8.5 20p would have been shiit hot but would rub the guard a tiny bit as mine slammed

Your kidding aren't you lol. Where did I say anything about offset?

You are correct it is offset that effects whether or not the tyres (or rims) will be too wide.

However "Your" original post said it would depend on rim width. :dontknow: Rim width does not matter as we know the offset is +40 and the tyres are 245mm wide, they will still be 245mm wide on a 8" rim, still be 245mm wide on a 8.5" rim and still be 245mm wide on 9" rim. The width of rim does not alter the tyre width unless your down with the kids and stretching them.

Offset Is measured from the CENTER of the rim... Hence... +40 offset on an 8 inch wide rim is different to +40 offset on a 9 inch wide rim, in terms of how far the rim will go inside the guard...

If you run a 245 on a 9 inch or 8 inch rim, the tyre will be in a different position under the guard DUE to the offset and rim width... Hence, as someone else stated... You need the wheel to sit out further (ie. +20) if you want to stop it from hitting.

It's ok... it's a bit hard for them simple folk to understand. :stirthepot:

The tyre will sit the same because the tyre width does not change. This is what im getting at. Doesn't matter 8" or 9" rim. The rim will be further in as its an extra 12.7mm on either side of centre. I'm not disagreeing with you on that, or on the offset.

But the point you seem to miss is that the +40 is a constant, so the wheel centre is also constant. A tyre will sit centred on the rim and because that centre has not changed a 245 tyre will have 122.5mm either side of the centre no matter what size the rim is. Stick a BMX wheel in the tyre centred and you will still have 122.5mm of tyre on either side of it.

As I said in my original post I have a 9" rim with 245 tread and at a +35 it nearly scrubs. So he would have to go the 225 tyre with a +40 wheel.

Edit: There will be a slight difference I apologise, the 8" rim will pitch the tyre more on the mounting face.

If they are +40 and 9 inches wide, it wont make ANY f*ckING difference if he has 205's on the rim!!! If the rim hits the upper control arm... What difference does a 225 or 245 tyre make???

Like I said. You have NFI...

Offset makes a huge difference...

Tocchi is running 19x10.5 with 245/40/19s... And it doesn't hit anything. This is because he runs a +15 or so offset... Hence there is clearance inside and out...

If he ran the same rim with 245's and +40 offset... The rim will sit 25mm further in... However, the tyre AND the rim will hit inside... Hence the 245 now DOES NOT fit!

So rim width and offset will play a huge part in whether he should fit 245's or 225's...

I think we are arguing 2 different points. :stirthepot: I will leave it at that.
