Its not bad(or good). It isnt as cold as my old VYSS. I havent had a day over 30 to test it yet. I reckon it will struggle a bit.

I thought I would let you know I have recently switch from Expensive Daewoo to Ford! I'm not a full FOOORD!!! or Hoooolden!!!! sort of bloke, they have both had good cars over the years. But on average I have prefered Holdens. Not anymore. I traded the wifes SV6 in on a Terriorty Ghia(what an awesome car) in July and my SS Crewman in two weeks ago on a GE6T 50th Edge. What a brilliant car!! Amazing motor, as you all know I'm sure.

It was parked next to a Calais and Statesman in a car park the other day and It made them look sh*t. Bloody plain and boring. The chrome is the key. Old school.

Anyway, I've moved to the ''Dark Side" and love it.

Go Foooorrrddd!!!!!

Mondeo better than Cruze.

Terriorty better than Captiva.

Falcon better Commondore.

Focus better than anything.

To be honest it sounds like you guys are pretty hard taskmasters!

Maybe it isn't the best feature of the car but to be so scathing in your complaints??!!

If you're hot, point the vents on you, then you'll feel cooler. We're not talking rocket surgery here guys.

And the idea of wanting it to be permanently on - doesn't sound very efficient.

Most modern technology aims to be efficient which means the very OPPOSITE of being permanently on I would have thought.

Perhaps in WA it might be a different story as no doubt it is hotter in the mornings but for us (south-) Eastern seaboard folk, build a bridge I say. Surely the fact that any car costing more than $15k these days has automatic climate control suggests that manual control is a dinosaur

Scathing? We are saying its just not cold enough. And compared to other cars Ive owned its a fair bit off the pace. If it was colder it means it dosent have to run as long to get the temp down and maintain it there. Therefore it would be more efficient and that's what being efficient means, it dosent have to work as hard to achieve its goal. It is also recommended in the manual to leave it in Auto mode all the time.

Because modern ac systems are so efficient it has very little effect on economy.

What is rocket surgery?

Speaking of manual control. Why cant I turm my dash lights on when I want? And not when the car wants?

It's a cross between rocket science and brain surgery - I like to mix my metaphors

Efficiency does not always mean fuel economy; consider the stress on the part itself of always being on

If having something on 22 means it isn't cold enough, put it on 20! Just because the number is 20, who cares... it is about the level of comfort

I now have a VW Jetta and setting it to 22 makes it cool, whereas in the Falcon 22 seemed warmer... at the end of the day the number is irrelevent, it is how you feel.

I'd be shocked if you set it to LOW and it still wasn't cold enough on anything but a 45 degree day

I understand that, but the actual air coming out of the vents isnt cold enough. Therefore it takes too long to get a very hot car down to a comfortable temp. My Holdens air temp was freezing and would get the temp down on a 40 degree day very quickly and maintain it easily. So it is possible. As you can tell by the responses from this thread a lot of people agree, Fords AC isnt as good as it could be or as good as some others. Of course the setting is irrelevent. But the air temp from the AC in the Ford should be colder. But having said that, I bloody love this car and cant fault it.

When on auto, it doesn't blow hard enough on the 30deg+ days. I just put it on recirculate air and that usually makes it blow harder and colder. If that's not enough you can always turn the fan up yourself and put the temp lower.

I think any update Ford make would just software that makes the auto setting work better rather then actually changing any parts.

True it does get hot in WA.

Our Territory has WAY MORE EFFICIENT aircon than our previous G6ET and for that matter so does our 9 year old Monaro that has never had to have a regas.

G6ET's are nice cars but FG's have a poor aircon system.

My girlfriends Accord Euro has both auto and manual controls for the AC.

In her car with the CC set to 24, is about the same as my FG set to 20.

^^ This.

Uhh the FG has manual controls too... except they are still thermostatically governed, hence 'semi auto'

Dunno about the Honda but surely if it has auto then likewise any manual override you use simply goes to semi auto?

But we're getting off track I suspect, unless someone changed the topic to " How's the AC on a hot day compared to my girlfriend's Accord Euro that has manual controls" innocent.gif

The thing you moaners need to consider is it's all about fuel efficiency these days for car manufacturers. The climate control is designed to use minimal a/c compressor time and compensates for it with a higher air flow.

If it's not cold enough turn the temperature down, if it's blowing too hard then turn the fan down. And also don't be afraid to use higher gearing to get the temp down faster inside a hot cabin. The auto FGs barely sit at more than an idle under normal driving so the compressor is hardly moving, whack it in performance mode or lock it in to a lower gear and you'll be freezing your nuts off in no time.
