Barra I spoke to Trevor from CES specifically about this. He feels it was purely for clearance issues. Bottom line, they've proven on their dyno that the twin 2.25" merge is one of the major restrictions in the FG system. He recommended that if I wanted to keep the stock system and just go with a high flow cat, that I redo the mid in single 3.5". It was only a couple of hundred bucks to do (in mild) and is worth around 20rwkw depending on the tune. Pretty good bang for buck IMO.

Thanks bomber. Very helpfull, 200k drive back to the exhaust shop I suppose. Just had a redback 12" long 3" Dia hotdog put in place after having the center muffler replaced with a pipe section about a mth ago. Found it a bit too annoying when trying not to be obvious. Sounds really good now, deep and quieter on cold startup, still very tough on WOT. :beerchug:

Ok done it last week. Forgot to take photos this time. 3" single pipe to replace the split twins. Difference? not to noticeable, I'll find out after I have time to get it re tuned. Surprised of the added weight of the twin pipe compared to it's replacement.

Yeah rab, I replaced the twin part for a single 3" so all the same size. no clearance issues if the exhaust shop know what their doing.

I hope I didn't lead you astray Barra. By going 3", even mandrel, you may have actually reduced the efficiency of the mid section. The mod I'm looking to do is a 100cpsi cat, then 3.5" mid to replace the twin 2.25" section. This was recommended to me by CES. They will just run stepped flanges to suit both ends.

Hmmm it'll do for now bomber, all good. There was alot of meat in the 2 to 1 collector part even slightly smaller than 2.5" so see how I go. I'll eventually get cat and dump too.

I had this done today to my ute. Its not alot louder than the stock exhaust which is nice. I had seen other center replacement pipes for sale on here which were twin pipes straight through my centre muffler was a single inlet with twin outs. For me its loudest around 2000rpm (FG xr6t Auto). I'm happy with the outcome for my $70 :)
