Is the new LP1P water base as well ........ ah shoooooooooooooite.

There goes putting two coats of nice baked enamel clear. Or is it the other way around, you can't put a water over a mineral base. Bugger. I have already hit mine with 1800 and gotten the peel out of the clear coat. But it is in the base as well. Bugger.

Time to sell it and buy a white GS ha ha not

Does anyone know why Ford didnt paint all the engine bay under the bonnet on the 50th Ann in Sunburst. I have notice the Nitro in photos is complete and my BA was fully painted as well but the sunburst colour stops at the top of the guards and firewall then its just a dirty brown looking base primer ( I think )

none are top coated....only under coated under bonnet ! mine is same...silver out, grey in ! :dontknow: saying that, so was all my skylines..

Interesting topic. I too am unhappy with the quality of the paint on my BF. The clear coat scratches very easily and I end up with new stone chips nearly every other day. Don't even get me started on what happens to the paint when I use the M2. The paint is so thin it's a joke. For comparison, I have an identical year model (2007) Hyundai Santa Fe that Iv'e owned since new - the bonnet does not have a single stone chip and it's the car we take on holidays with plenty of trips up and down the Pacific Hwy with some occasional off road action thrown in. The paint quality is far superior to the Ford and it goes to show how much of a joke the factory paint job on my BF is. Hyundai can get it right, why not Ford Aus??

Mine must be a one off then! Engine bay is clear coated and glossy. Winter white.

Even the solid colours are COB ( clear over base) now. Used to just the metallics. General paint on mine not too bad. Bit of peel but not as noticeable on white :innocent:

But something you guys may want to look at is the clear paint protection film. Its a 3M product that can cover part or the entire vehicle if required. I had it applied to my front bar, headlights, half front guards, full bonnet to the screen and front of mirrors. Its 99% invisible, UV stavilized and can be polished as normal. Brilliant stuff! Good bye stonechips. It can stay applied for years.. they state lifetime warranty.

All up cost approx $1000... well worth the coin and can be peeled off when your ready to sell or trade.

I was going to post earlier.. but I didnt want to jump the gun and endorse something I wasnt completely satisfied with.

Each kit is computer generated and cut so it shapes to the vehicle exactly.. Awesome stuff

And heres a bonus.. had my FG6T in for some warranty issues (suprise suprise ! ) at my local ford dealer the other day and when I went to pick it up I noticed a scrap mark along the passengers side bumper bar along the lower edge. I brought it to the service managers attention.. after the usual " It couldnt of been us" .. I told him I not accepting his arguement. Anyway.. to cut a long story short he agreed to pay for the repair.. I went back to the and had the film peeled off and to my delight the paintwork was untouched. The film saved the paint. So the lowewr section was re-applied and paid for by the dealer... done!

Cheers

Jimmi

When the FG first came out I made a thread regarding how poor the paint quality was and no one agreed, isnt this thread interesting!

All the Fords have sh*thouse paint, BA BF FG, just because theres a few of you that have good paint, that's a few cars out of how many thousand?

Ford paint = rubbish

I didn't think the block colours got a dedicated clear coat. Only the metal flake colours got clear cause that's where the flake is.

For mine, on par with the worst paint standard in the industry. But I am overly fussy with the paint work.

Paint shop today said no worries to putting two baked coats of clear enamel over it ??? How can they if the original is water based ??

I am going to have to sand back all the clear if I want a proper finish anyway, I think. There is peel in the base coat. I have already hit this car with 1800 and got the peel out of the clear coat. But at certain angles you can still see it through the clear in the base coat. Pretty much a full respray. Yuck.
