Bosco do you have the part number for the cooler you used?

Just been having a look, and think I'll go with something like this:

Not sure what size, the 20,500BTU one equates to 6kw, ZF say 7, but I cant imagine how much more efficient that little heat exchanger must be compared to having that stuck in behind a fog light.

Might go the larger one, just to be safe, as having the fog light in will restict airflow.

Or the smaller ones with built in fans would be alright, hopefully they'd get enough airflow though and the fan wouldnt have to be on all the time to keep it below the 80c.

Will just use those adapters off ebay from furious_8, some 3/8 hose (dunno if braided yet) and whatever adpaters to to get it onto the cooler.

Hardest part should be installing the core and topping up the trans fluid.

Further to my post above on what ZF recommend, they also provided me with these specs:

Cooler flow rate (oil): 8(litres/minute)

Cooler pressure rating I don't have but I do have the max allowable pressure drops:

Coolant Side: 140(kPa)

Oil Side: 40(kPa)

ID of cooler pipes: 10(mm)

also Nizpro have something they'll fit up, but its in excess of $1k installed. Apparently they fit the core between the rear bumper and wheel well too.

Tunehouse do their own conversion and it ends up looking like it came out with it from the factory:

Here's the engine oil cooler; Holes have been drilled in the plastic wheel arch cover to promote airflow through the core.

ZF cooler also runs a thermatic fan which was installed after the photo was taken.

These coolers have been in for 18 months and there have been no issues with the gearbox. Cold changes are just the same as warm changes......firm but fair :)

Was the fan added as the core itself wasn't cooling enough?

And is that split tubing over the hose or something? Just to protect it a bit I assume.

Looks like one of the B&M Hi-Tek kits, come on at 80deg and go off at 60deg. No sure if that's suitable for the ZF's operating temps though?

B&M also don't recommend mounting them with the hoses at the bottom like that either, to avoid air pockets.

I got to tackle this job soon on an FG.

Just thought I'd bump this up to get some more pics and ideas on external trans oil cooler setups

I am specifically looking for the adaptors on the plastic hose but cant find that ''furious 8'' guy on ebay. Anyone know who does these adaptors

I've been trying to figure out whether to just buy his full kit, or just the adapters and get my own core, as his kit is designed for the n/a cars, so it goes in front of the radiator.

Haven't taken the front bar off yet to see how much room I have behind the fog lights, will probably need a fan if installed there with the lights in place too.

I have one of the furious 8 kits fitted to my BF F6..Mounted it in front of my rapid cooler so plenty of air flow....No issues thus far.

Got a photo?

I'm going to be using a Nizpro big big cooler, so wasn't sure how much room it'd leave, didnt really want it in fromt of the cooler either.

Also, have you checked what temp the trans operates at now, I imagine it'd take a while to get up to temp on cold mornings?
