Very happy with the the result - 265rwkw (up from 220rwkw stock) Thanks to Simon at XFT for for fitting me in at extremely short notice....Anyway, I have run the car on a mix of 95 and 98 RON in the past - always Caltex as I have a Caltex fuel card. In anticipation of the tune I filled up last week with 98. On the way out the XFT this morning I was almost empty and being pressed for time (and not being near a Caltex) I pulled into the BP nearby and put half a tank of ultimate in.When I picked the car up Simon asked if I was sure the car was filled with 98 as he said it was the worst performing 98 fuel he had seen - closer to 95 he reckoned - and as such he had to back the tune off a bit. In his view the BP ultimate is the best with Caltex probably the worst 98 fuel on the market. Thinking about it driving home I reckon the BP ultimate is more likely to be the culprit - maybe a bad batch? I would have only had about 5-6 litres of the Caltex in the tank when I topped up with about 40 litres of Ultimate...If the Caltex is crap and it was only the addition of the ultimate that got it at least reasonably tunable will I be able to run the caltex full time without pinging etc. Has anyone else had trouble with Caltex 98? The Caltex and Shell use additives to get the numbers up whereas Mobil and BP are straight fuels. My opinion much less chance of a stuff up over all. I've owned performance cars all my life and never used anything other than mobil and BP and never had any issues. Same with the tuners who have worked on my cars. The cars are collector cars in concourse condition and they are meticulous record keepers. Some of them have recorded up to 40k less from a tank using Caltex. I don't know why. The fuel may have been sitting for ages otherwise and reduced in octane rating. I cant comment if this is true or not as I am not a fuel tester or tuner so no first hand knowledge but I myself tend to bypass the small BP and Shell servo's that we have in North QLD unless used by everyone. Just this week I had to do an emergency fill before dropping the car off to the trans rebuilder, no Mobil servo's within miles, so had to put Caltex Vortex 98 in it, and guess what, pinging its tits off! Luckily No damage done, and I quickly loaded my 95ron base tune, until teh tank runs dry. Couldn't believe their could be that much drop off in octane rating between the brands. Mobil must burn much cleaner from my experience.

Like yesterday I had to cross the border back into Albury from Wodonga to get BP Ultimate But am gonna be forced to fill up with Vortex 98 today I suspect. No other choice for 98 RON in Bright. I ask him heaps of questions about which is best.. He says BP and Mobil have the best fuels. But with 7/11 now owning alot of Mobils, I wonder if there fuel quality will suffer? I havent filled up using Mobil since the takeover..I put shell in my old car and it didnt like it at all, this was 6 years ago now, havent touched the stuff since.
