young fella at work has a bf mk1 xr6t, thought he done a rod took it to his tuner told him it was a gudgeon pin loose. so tuner tells him have to pull engine out to fix. so he decides to go to a local another tuner, they put car on hoist running and tuner tells him its not a rod or gudgeon pin. told him it is oil slapping in sump, and its been happing since the ea fords onwards. tuner tells him so many bottom ends have been rebuilt for no reason, and told him not to worry. has anyone ever heard of oil slapping from sump. spoken to a few mechanics last few days and say it is common. oh yeah his knocking was a bolt but still has that slapping noise.

knocking was a bolt ? elaborate please ?

never heard of oil slapping about so hard it makes more noise than a bottom end going.. :dontknow:

and had an xg with 400+k's on original engine hence why so many I6 ford taxi's so the bottom end being weak is another weird one to me...

I reckon we need to hear it in a video or something... could your mate do that ? I am curious !

sorry rab, he made he's own cai box for he's car, he is very handy with metal and welding. what I meant to say bolt was loose and box was knocking against gaurd. the slapping noise thing I never heard of either, but speaking to some mechs they say it happens.

yeah went into advanced search typed in oil slapping, there seems its not uncommon. if you click on bottom end noise there is a few people with it and there is a member by the name of straughsberry who has a fg bottom end doin it.

ah ok, just adjustment needed on the airbox then.. as for the rest, ive had 4 fords in the last 2yrs and none of them with any issues relating to the bottom end ! done two head gaskets though as they are common in older cars but nothing much else to complain about !
