True, Argentina is going the same way with the corruption in the police force there & the government. Has the potential to be a massive economy with their resources & farming industries but it has been totally squashed by bad managment from corrupt officials. The whole country is run on bribes.

something I posted elsewhere about this sh*t,....

ok, back a while......

India, run successfully and was the gem in the empire, very successful....gave it back, goes to sh*t...

Rhodesia, ran briliantly, gave it back, goes to sh*t and unsafe ! (mates are from Zim, sold all their farms and fled ! )money is worthless !

South africa, run well, strong economy, give it back, goes to sh*t.......

Hong Kong, run successfully, Brits made it what it is now...hasn't went to sh*t.....yet but china has grown off its back over the years !

Australia, empty mostly, still is ! Brits came, made it what is today ! do you want it to go the way the others have done ? if so, just vote for the PC brigade,

see the trend ? do ya ? not racism or religion, historical fact !

and I am with our06t, IF you were guaranteed to be helping the poor man then I am sure they would get sympathy and help from lots more than they do but as it is, prime ministers taking month long holidays during a national crisis is just treachery !

There is! I personally dont bother with just giving someone money but if theres a way I can help them to help themselves then I'm all for it. Kiva - Loans that change lives is a good place to start.

I can go through a list of people from all walks of life who need to borrow money for various reasons. A guy recently needed to borrow money (I think $40) to start a potato crop for his village. Virtually impossible in some parts of the world but since I can lend him the money he can employ someone, sell his product etc. Rather than being poor, he now can work and make money which will end up being shared around his village. The good thing for me is that he repays me over time. Interest free of course.

For those who are saying go out and see the world, dont forget it can be rather expensive for the average person. I try and travel somewhere in Australia and somewhere OS once a year but my parents for example simply can not afford to, yet they would absolutely love to.

My issue with India lies in the fact that they are able to sell 3million dollar cars, throw a huge amount of money at cricketers but dont appear to be willing to help the poor.

If anyone reads, a great book is Nicholas Kristof's "Half the sky". Its focuses heavily on women in regard to sex trafficking, forced prostitution, gender based violence, mass rape and maternal mortality. So certainly not feel good bedtime reading but its very powerful stuff

It's pretty simple really and I tend to be a bit skeptical of the usual donation setups. I mean how much of my money actually goes to the needy and how much goes into "admin"??

Least with this, I actually can get it back. Mind you, 95% of it just goes back into other projects / loans but you can cash out if you like.
