Wow. I actually just joined the forums yesterday as I’m seriously considering crossing over from the dark side to a blown Ford, in either 6 or 8 guise. I thought my budget of 55K may get me into a GS, but apparently not. And even if it did, it appears I’d be hard pressed to find where the money went. Surely if sales are so bad already, a price cut is not too far away??? “55K driveway” has a nice ring to it FPV :spoton:

They're sure to come down - not selling. The F6 is far better value so unless she's the beer hauler and leased up, you're pissin money away. I'm sure Ford factored in the supercharger 'hype' and rolled out the GS knowing first run buyers just want it because it's new. Get over that and actually start looking at kit and most have realised it just aint good value. That said, these first run cars will be unreal second hand in 12 - 18 months. By then though, the newbies will most likely have Brembos and better kit so again, first run are gunna get smacked in resale.

55 might get you an F6.. Less than 60 with leather, rims, mats. WAY better value than the 8.

Some will just buy it for the 'sound track' to be fair. Lets face it, the I6 aint the sweetest sounding thing going around - if ya can catch it however :roflmbo: I nearly bought a VE SS instead and still miss the V8 sound but my 'T' was better allround so I crossed over.

The trouble for FPV dealers also is that HSV have far more margin. My mate loses sales all the time because of this. So unless you're a Ford diehard or just want a 'V8' the offerings from HSV and in fact even your basic SS or Redline version (it gets Brembos) are hard to ignore - at the moment. So again, it gets back to value. GS, too expensive IMO and no other Ford V8 option.

I can understand that. The 6 does sound well... S**T! I bought the 6 as it represented better value for my intentions and purpose. If I was going to do a V8 to be honest the HSV range would have been my first choice. I still wonder sometimes if I made the right choice when I hear one drive past.. But then I just put the boot in and all is well again..

Hence the appeal of the GS - just not at current money. They farked up really. Will we do and XR8 or not? Um, just throw the new blown donk in her and put some stickers on it and that'll have to do 'cause we're outta money. Hang on, fark, detune it a bit also or we'll screw over the GT. It's like a stripper at a kids party - all kinda wrong.

I must admit the whole V8 thing has been a bit of a miss. Should have kept the v8 everywhere and s/c the GT only. simple way to seperate the fords from the fpv's. the same could be said for the turbo xr6/g6e vs fpv.

Both Ford and FPV would be in a better position and have better brand identity if there wasn't any other performance variants without out FPV badges on them.

Also the price levels would probably balance out better as FPV would sell more so they could be priced a bit better.

At the very least, FPV should lineball the GS pricing with the F6. How can they expect to sell a model which is no quicker and has less standard kit?

GT

It should be cheaper and keep the options list empty (I still think they should ditch the s/c). Then make only the GT-P. whats the point of a GT a GT-P and a GS. If they had to do 3 models I say GS, GTP, and a new one the GT-E. keep the line up the same in the 6- XR6, F6, F6E.

maybe instead of spending so much on an engine they should have spent something on marketing.

Ford have used the same marketing model since October 1908. This is it, this is all you get and you better bloody like it or piss off.

$40 million in R&D on a motor only to put it into a spin off label ??? seriously WTF

Where is our XR8 - G8E. And while your at it a no frills V8 that is cheap as chips with nbothing in it, and we can play with it our way. Think about it. They can just void the warrenty and make some quick cash back on it.

Nope not Fords way. First they have to piss off every Jurno and media outlet they can. Then start on their loyal customers. Then the general public.

They move half the products the general does.

Instead of being the great savior. Ford has turned this new V8 into a shotgun and shot themselves in the foot.

FYI,

I purchased a set of FPV wheels a few weeks ago, the 'silver argents' that are on the GS, off a bloke who bought a brand new GS ute and took off the wheels to fit 20's on. He bought the ute for 51k on road, optioned up with leather and a few other goodies. Doesn't sound really expensive to me.
