WBT56,

1. Is the T56 you refer to the same as the Tremec T-56, as described in the following link http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/T-56.asp , or something different?

2. Do you know how that differs from the 6 speed that CAPA are selling for $8,335?

I remember someone previously clarifying that the T5 we use is not the same as the Tremec T-5.

thanks,

Brian

1)The T56 I refer to is A Tremec T56. It is a custom build, that does not appear among the 27 odd listed on the TTC website. It is built from parts from 3 different boxes, plus some custom parts, to make it a direct bolt in to the BA.(no cutting).

2)The same. (nice photo I took, eh)

3)The T5 in the BA IS a Tremec T5. All componants for it except the B/h, input shaft and extension housing are made by Tremec. Because it does not leave the Tremec factory as a complete unit, it does not carry a Tremec assy number, and therefore does not appear on the website. I believe it is assembled locally at the BTR plant in Albury.

Ok. So now some more questions.

How much grunt will the T56 take reliably?

Is that $8335 fitted? (wow)

Does anyone know approximately how much the T5 would be to rebuild? Maybe, if it's not too much, it could be an option to get it rebuilt after say 50-60 000km before it has the chance to let go.

Why wont the TR3650 from the XR8 fit?

We have T56's handling 550 FWKW from S/C Gen III.

The TR3650 won/t fit due to integral bellhousing and too long overall length.

Pricing depends on who fits it and whether you trade your T5.

T5 would be about $2200 to rebuild if it goes bang, possibly somewhat less if you did a "preventative maintenance replacement" of cluster and third gear. This option will probably bite you though, as whatever you don't replace becomes the weak link.

Do you run it out to 70 odd in second and then drop it into fifth? Most people shifting into fifth from any gear other than fourth will wreck the fifth gear synchro quickly. The synchro on fifth is tiny, it will not stand up to that. BTW I pulled down a brute ute T5 yesterday, same internals as a T, first gear synchro is damaged, second gear synchro is damaged, third gear synchro is destroyed, third gear is stripped, forth gear synchro is destroyed, the cluster is stripped, but fifth gear synchro is..... perfect.

I have never short changed from 2nd or third into 5th, almost all my driving is on the stuart Highway. I do however change into 5th from 4th at around 5500 rpm when getting up to speed or overtaking. I'd say 1st 2nd and 3rd in the box are in A1 condition. Most of the work my box gets is 4th and 5th.

I would be changing your oil spec for high speed, high ambient temp operation. Syntrans will kill all of your synchros long term. Try Castrol Transmax Z.
