Good job FG XXXR6. did you end up using the mirrors from ebay? The mirrors sure do add to the car. Hope to get my badges this weekend, Saw them half finished a few days ago and they look rather good.

Thanks tpinto. I agree, they certainly do add to the car. I did end up using the ebay ones & am pleased with the result. They fit perfect and the temp sensor works for the first time since purchasing the car.

Who's doing your badges for you and what are they made of (ABS plastic or alloy)? I'm trying to find someone who can do a pair for me in SA. I'm toying with the idea of an FPV or G6E style badge with XR6 in it :buttonit:

I've been getting a few queries, so I thought I'd share the following with everyone.

I used aftermarket mirrors that I sourced on eBay. As I said, the mirrors are aftermarket jobs, but the ambient temperature sensor works perfectly (funny thing is the original one was always 10 degrees out, lol).

The mirrors I bought went in fairly easy. Mirror and Door connectors were different shapes, but the wire colour codes are the same. I modified the wiring connectors (on the mirror side so the original mirrors can plug back in later if I want) by removing the individual wires and plugging them straight on to the door loom connectors. I just cut the white plastic away with side cutters, then put a shrink wrap over the outside of each individual wire plug.

I just ran the indicator wires through the rubber wiring conduit for the door to front pillar . Made a small hole with a coathanger to poke the wires out of the rubber (ensuring hole was smaller than wire diameter to seal off from dust etc) and ran the wires through behind the guard and tapped them into the repeater wires. (There's a huge gap between the guard and pillar so that part was easy as.) Original repeater plug just plugs straight onto the back of the FPV (or G6E) guard badge (which I plan on changing to a custom one at a later date) to keep dust out of the connector.

Took about 90 minutes each side (including door trim removal) and I reckon the end result is worth every second.

Part Numbers are up the top of this thread Josh.

Finally got the wiring looms for each door using the part numbers mentioned in your post, but my mirrors were just scalps and lenses from FTG auto salvage and didnt have any wiring and from what I can see there needs to be a short wire with globe holder etc to go from the door loom to the mirror indicator, you don't have a part # for that by any chance??? Did your mirrors come with this or did you buy seperately?

Thanks,

Josh
