Workshop manual says as an approximate for the I6 it should be 25mm below the reverse switch hole which is where you are filling it. The only true way is to dump the oil and put in exactly 4.85L for your one, you can also measure what came out to see what was in there.

As for noise from the trans (as long as its not coming from clutch) the following are possible causes:

1, Improper type or incorrect level of trans fluid.

2, Loose bolts or other attaching parts.

3, Improper flywheel housing to engine crankshaft alignment.

4, Noisy trans bearings.

5, Noisy gears.

If its from the clutch(engine running):

1, CSC bearing failure.

2, Clutch disc damaged.

Hope some of this can help.

I have a xr50t too at ~150kms with prominent tapping noise when in neutral with the clutch released/out. disappears immediately aft clutch is pushed in/engaged. and there's a faint but noticeable "grating"/scraping sound that I've noticed several times in first and second gear.

giantlobster: You are describing exactly what I am hearing with mine.....Have you had your dealer look at it yet? Please let me know. When it was in for the 3000km "Check" they said it was normal....just wondering what they say?

Thanks

any of that 'clutch in. clutch out noise,' is rollover noise in the gearbox, its very common with the TR6060 gearbox. I wouldnt worry, they all do it.

Better gear oil will improve the noise, such as Transmax Z or Mainlube 154, and so on.

I have a 6sp man FG ute and its the same issues I've had. Trust me, I've asked EVERYONE from guys on here, to ford, to performance mechanics, and they all say the same thing.

T56 is the 6spd in the BFs and T5 is the 5spd found in the early BAs. And yea FG TR6060, dont know if its in the early ones.
