Nah no difference really asside from the manual gearbox.

Everytime this question comes up I find the easiest way to answer is by knowing exactly how much you are willing to spend. Then we can advise the best car you can get for the money.

Ok, I'd like to limit it to $15K which I know won't get you a BF but I plan on keeping it for a few years so the extra few grand would be irrelevant longterm.

If I test drive a stock BF XR6T(auto) would I likely to be as disapointed in the 0-60km acceleration as I was in the BA? Or is the ZF gearbox so much better than that of the BA that you can notice it ?

It is a better gearbox but if your not going to modify the car at all I'd save your coin and just get a good condition BA for 15. When buying a high kay BA though make sure you get someone to over it thoroughly, that's about the time people are unloading them due to problems with gearbox's or aging suspension etc.

Get it fully checked out make sure it's got a full service history and try to get one with as low kays as possible and you should be right.

depending which state im in vic and got racv to do check for me when I bought mine, had books but still got it checked was there when they done it. they did everything from compression test, all driveline, testdrove for a good 15mins, yes mine is a x cop car and he was impressed with it, and if your there when he does it pay him extra $100 cash get him to write sum problems in like diff clunk, slipping auto, then go in for the kill and get a cople of grand off, trust me racv dudes don't get paid that well so extra $100 comes in handy hope that helps.

I dont think RACV will do this any more becuse I heard that someone posted that they do it on a PUBLIC forum ............... and now they are all on notice! :surrenderwave:

Thanks Dillz, that helps. :)

Ok, here's the deal with the one I saw/interested in....BA2 05 auto with prem sound & 18in xr8? wheels, done 82K. All sounds good but no service history or even the owners manual, & that kinda bothers me.

I did take a couple of m8's with me, one who is a mechanic & the other a panel beater. Small tap on front bumper at some stage, otherwise straight, but as for the mechanics, all looks ok, but he never really did much(visual inspection).......which leads me into my next question. Are the vehicle inspections carried out by the likes of NRMA(NSW) thorough(check compression, g/box, turbo, etc)? Is that what you mean by get it checked out?

I would love to get one with low km's & fully service history, but most BA's on the market in NSW are nearing 100K+ :(

I'll never bother with RACV/NRMA checks again, I'd doubt they would even pop the bonnet unless your watching. Last one I got missed a stuffed radiator of all things.bangcomputer.gif

I mean take it to a mechanic you trust but if your mate is one even better.

I know what you're saying about vehicle checks but they can be useful. I bought a bf2 from sydney & I live in qld. had nrma do a check, cost $200, the things they picked up I used to barter, got $1500 off as I rang ford to find out prices. cost me $800 to fix as I did some myself.

options below with 48,000k's for $22k. bit more than you wanted to pay but keep your eye out, I was looking for a few months & glad I didn't rush into it.

good luck with the hunt :spoton:

For $18 from the RTA you can check the history of a vehicle. Tells you when it was 1st registered, how many owners its had, whether private or business & the period each owner had it for. Also tells you if its ever been written off before.......money well spent I reckon, as it helped me decide on getting the XR6T I mentioned earlier :)
