Hi

Been a member here for years but have been away for a long time. I bought a manual BA XR6T new in 2003 - kept it for 2.5 yrs then sold it to a mate. He still owns it so I still get to drive it occasionally! Since then I've had a Mazda 6MPS, a Liberty Heritage Wagon and currently have a Liberty 3.0 R Spec B wagon.

I am looking at buying an XR6T 50th anniversary edition and have a couple of questions that I dont trust the answers from salesmen on:

To get the 19" spare, do you need to factory order the car. It looks to me from a pic I've seen that the boot carpet is a different shape to cater for the extra height - is that the case?

I would actually like to get both the 19" spare and the space saver so the boot isnt restricted and I can still have the cheap wheel/tyre also. Possible? Anyone done this?

Is the ford alarm upgrade OK?

Are they still making the 50th packs, or have they all been made already?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome back. I have 19" spare and the boot level recess is flat, no bulge in it with the 19" spare. Don't know if the 50th is different. I wouldn't think so. Ford alarm upgrade is fine IMO.

Yes it is obviously higher but the bottom of the boot is still flat...just not as deep if that makes any sense.

If you want the 19" spare then definitely option it - is another active thread at the moment where someone forgot to order it and the only option is then to buy it as a spare part at over $1000 each.

As for if they are still building the 50th anniversary I have no idea sorry - so it may be a mute point and you could just have to take whatever is already in dealer stock :buttrock:

Yes the depth changes but the floor is flat which means the mat may be different size/shape to suit.

Re 50th availability. Check out an email I just received.

Cheers

Extended warranty? Anyone know if this is something that can be arranged after the fact? - I doubt it though. I wonder if it is because there are a few 50th Ann N/A models hanging around that they cant sell?

As a side note, I was told when I ordered mine (Delivered on the 10th Sep) that I had the last production slot for a 50th Ann Turbo for the dealer I got it from (wanted a manual). Do you think they were just trying to get me to buy it, or that they were all out? From another post on here there are only 750 Turbo sedans being built.

Thanks

They're still being made - just.

Space saver and full size spares have two different levels of boot trim to cater for the different rim width.

For mine I don't understand why anyone with directional tyres would choose to drive around with a full size spare. Plus the extra deep well formed by the space saver is perfect for the groceries!

The rear plastic bit is different between the 2 of them

The reason I think you should buy the `19" spare, is that the tyres are $570 each, so it is cheap insurance. If I had to I would buy the 19' spare and buy a space saver from the wrecker. When I put the 6 spots on I wont be able to fit a 17 on anyway. I told the ford dealer that I would buy 2 sets of wheels at $250 each! :innocent:

I was suprised that the utes didnt have the option of having a 19' spare (even though at first it was listed as an option) but when I fitted the tow bar I saw that the spare is a 17/245 tyre, so it is the same width anyway!
