Direct Replacement Aftermarket Subwoofer

dynamat is my next thing. I did notice just how flexible the shelf is though (grab the back of the sub and can move it/shelf a fair bit, the fact the driver is quite heavy to prob dont' help). This would likely be more of an issue once better amped(powered) but wouldn't be helping eitherway. Dynamat probably wont help here much but short of bracing the shelf probably not much can do.

No I need to work out what front speakers. I've read only good things about these Shopping Secure - Car Audio Specialists - SPL Dynamics SD-6.2 expecially for the price. Might put the std front speaker split setup in the rear. While obviously still crap, seem much better than what is in the rear standard?

That should work ok, not overly efficent but it appears to be designed by lower powered amps. + with a Qts value of .812 it should work well free air.

I 'bogan spec' sound deadend the parcel shelf last night (using FlashTac, already has some so why spend $'s on Dynamat).

I've still gotta redo my 8 to 10'inch MDF spacer as its no 100% atm, but as other have said, Dynamatting the parcel shelf does help and is noticable.

With the MM840DVC, how do you have the voice coils wired, series or parallel?

I didnt think the stock amp would handle a 2ohm load too well, but if yours is still going, might have to give it a go.

Might be why the Polk performs too, as the amp would be putting out more power that way.

If in series (giving 8ohms) I'd imagine it'd sound worse due to the low power it'd be getting.

They do make a single voice coil 4ohm model too.

I've just put in a Rockford Fosgate Punch P1S4 8" Subwoofer. Bolted straight in without any mods. I also dynamatted the rear shelf.

Very happy with the results. Massive improvement over stock.

While I was at it I also replaced the front speakers with some Alpine Type-S 5x7s. Again, a big improvement.

All up, for about $300 (including a sheet of dynamat) the stock premium audio has been transformed into something listenable.

Replaced the fronts including the tweeters in the pillar?

How'd ya wire it if so?

For some reason my premium audio was missing the tweeters in the A pillar - not sure why. The Alpines were a straight swap for the stockies.

Strange. Mine didnt have a sub (but had the amp) although it was ex pig spec.

The stock tweeters are pretty sh*t anyway.

So you have tweeters now? Used the Alpine crossovers and ran your own wiring?
