So a BIG improvement from the stocker?

Thing is I got no idea how the stocker runs, oddly it was missing from my car (amp and wiring etc is all in though!).

I've got an old boxed 10 (kicker) out of another car running off the stocker amp at the moment, which is much better than no sub.

I also have a spare amp, If I can get better than the current 10 driven 'weakly' off the stock amp using the Polk + a better amp I'd be happy.

Need boot space!

Autobarn sell it for $200, but I managed to get it for $150 from WOW Sight and Sound. It was a big improvement, I can turn it up as loud as I want now without the sub distorting. Definately worth the $150 I thought! With a better amp I'm sure it would sound even better.

Cheers, I rang WOW yesterday, no longer stock (and they checked all stores) doh. Might sus Auto$cam or ebay from states cheaper lol.

I replaced mine with a 10 inch from Jaycar and run it from the factory sub amp. Mounted it from underneath the parcel tray and the boot lining still fits fine. Huge improvement in bass and no distortion at high volume levels.

I didn't think of that, suprised it still had enough room! I have a 10inch kicker not being used but not sure how well it will work in parcel shelf. (seems to light small ported boxes).

I'm guessing it was this model Vifa 10" Subwoofer - Jaycar Electronics ??

With a Qts value of 0.73 this driver would seem perfectly suited for the application.

think it's ideally suited to an enclosure, however it's a huge improvement over the stock sub. It has a QTS of 0.63 (have no idea what that means)

Hey Spook,

So to sum it up...you just replaced the standard woofer with the jaycar unit ...albeit under the tray...& just reconnected the wires. If so Ill head down to Jaycar myself. Can you tell me what dynamat is...and where do I get it??

I striped an old 10inch Kicker out of a box I've had for years (happy to see "Freeair" on the back of the thing lol). Made up some MDF spacers and mounted it. Works near as good as in the box in the boot. I'd imagine once I redo the mounting more solid and dynamat the shelf it should work even better. Due to the spacers and the size of the sub I had to remove the rear under carpet, but meh, can't see that anyways so doesn't really matter. Much better than having a box in the boot taking up space.

Good stuff Spoony. I ran some dynamat (not that exact brand but similar) over the rear parcel tray and must say I'm impressed with the results with the bass now much cleaner. The factory sub amp seems up to the task so far - time will tell.

Danny: yeah mate, just made up some mdf rings and mounted it underneath and runs off the factory sub plug. Dynamat is just a sound deadening material that sticks to almost anything. Good at getting rid of vibrations due to subs etc. Most car audio places should be able to get you some.
