Because getting the box to do what it does comes down to driving styles and circumstances, and it seems mainly to happen in adaptive mode.

How and where you drive it may cause the issue to show itself, but someone else may never see it. Or they may only see it once every 100 shifts, whereas you see it once every 10. So not a problem for them, but it is for you.

There is a bloke on AFF that only has the issue in peak hour traffic, 90% of the time when coming to one roundabout. He slowly idles to the line and does a quick take off when he see's a gap, then gets a thud. In the rest of his driving, it doesnt happen.

Can fully understand ZF's reasoning for it and why the box is programmed this way. I think the constant 2 > 1 shifts at idle and low speeds would become hugely annoying when it wasnt necessary.

Ive noticed mine. Doesnt happen alot but its sh*t when it does.

IT ALWAYS does it when im leaving work. I pull outta the carpark in underground go around a corner then I go up the ramp. while im going up the ramp I can feel the car holding second and I slow down to see if there is cars coming (not completely stopped) and once I put my foot down again there is a delay and it shifts back to first.

I'll add my name to the list.

06 BF II XR6

Couldn't believe it the first time it did it. Its embarrassing having someone else in the car when it happens.

I have learned to drive around it so it doesn't catch me out very often now, but it shouldn't happen at all, its bloody ridiculous.

Im considering getting an FG XR6T and im seriously considering a manual to get away from the ZF.

Everybody raves about how good the ZF is, like

I have been looking through this site in relation to a gearbox issue I have. My car intermittantly won't go into the semi auto option(manual selection of gears) but if I switch the ignition off and on again then its ok for a while. Also the indication on the dash flickers from time to time as if it doesn't know what gear it is in, then when I accelerate sometimes it just sits in the same gear as if its trying to sort a down change. Also pulling away its as if its in second gear

The car is a BA turbo with a BF II gearbox fitted.

Will taking it to a main dealer show up any issues. If anyone has any suggestions let me know or does it look like the gearbox is on its way out. I don't want to get ripped off so if anyone knows of similar experiences let me know.

I believe there is some sort of 1st gear transmission protection programmed into the ZF.

I was told by my tuner that it can be by-passed with a shifting tecnique, which worked very well for me for the last year or so, while boosting at the start of a race.

It is to protect the box during fast 1st gear take off and also if the box is shifted into first gear at high speed.

My transmission shift paramiters have been adjusted in my NEW race tune, to over-ride the gaer box protection in first gear to allow for high boost/ high rev take off...

But I would say best to be stationary before chucking it back to first anyway...

After months of complaining to the local Ford service centre after my original post I have just received a phone call saying that ZF are aware of this issue and it is something that is happening in only the turbo cars (Both XR and F6). They are in the middle of coming up with a fix that should be ready sometime in March/April. I believe it is a software issue and I will update the post after the guy from ZF has carried out this fix, fingers crossed it does the trick because it's at the point of embarrassing when I have anyone in the car.

one of my mates bf2 xt 4sp autos does the take off in second but if you put your foot down to much theres a delay while it changes to first, its caused a few close calls when she first got it, makes your bum tighten when you need to get out of an intersection fast put your foot down and it goes know where for a second, all in the name of fuel economy though.

thank fu** I own a manual :buttrock:

Just wanted to get on the list as I have exactly the same issue. Call me a skeptic but if it's an inbuilt fault with the software why aren't we seeing more members highlighting this issue?

Would be nice if anyone is experiencing this issue pls drop a short confirmation on this thread, the more incidents we get may give us a bit more muscle. I have access to ZF staff thru work but didn't want to make contact until I could get a few more members on the list.

I've got it, but have been discussing it on a different forum. Ford say they cannot fix it.

Excellent! please keep us all posted. When a fix is known, please start a new thread that we can easily identify Like "ZF shunting issues solved" or the like. Make shure you keep on them. What dealer is sorting this for you? Good work.......

I had this on my 4 Speed BAII XR8. They replaced the box as the 4Sp (then) should not do it.

Hey Brett. Finally a solution! Mine does the bang shift when I pull into my driveway. It doesn't click down to 1st as I roll up and then when I put the throttle down once the front tyres are over the kerb it bangs into 1st, but seems yours does this more often than on a ramp or driveway. Must be farking annoying!

Yeah James it sucks! After all I read on how great the ZF 6 speed was I must say I was pretty disappointed. If they do come up with a fix it will go along way in restoring my faith (now if only they can sort out the shorting out ICC screen :bangcomputer: )
