Ok so heres the run down!

I bought a ba xr6 turbo with 48,000km, auto, about 6 weeks ago. drives beautiful. Other than a noisy power steering pump!

I had her on a hoist.. noticed a leak coming from the oil return pipe (turbo flange to sump) Im a mech engineer and my reasoning is this...... Replace the gaskets with organic compared to factory stainless steel and to be extra careful throw on a smear of oil and heat resistant gasket glue!

Ok so I did all that! put it back up.. let it set for a few hrs and started her up!... andddddd wow, its leaking more than before.

I wasnt sure of the torque spec of the bots but I did them tight enuf to compress!

guys there is a thread on this but it basically says nothing.

PLEASE, IM BEGGING, CAN ANYONE HERE HELP? Please!

hi mate, check to see that you have not treaded the oil return line to the sump, its pretty easy to thread since its alloy,if you have get two longer bolts that fit in there, change the gasket for a new one,an smear a bit of hi temp gasket maker,an torque it to 20 nm.

place a smear of sealer on the bolts. the bolt holes are open to oil in the sump.

Ok! I got it! it only took effn 6 hrs to get right! heres the run down if you do have the problem! mines had it since factory apparently!

1) remove the line! undo the bolts slowly, as CCCC said, their only soft aluminium and thread easily!

2) rough up all 4 surfaces with sand paper. (the two flange faces of the pipe and the turbo flange and sump flange face. Scratch them to form a cross hatching look.

3) do not use ANYTHING but electrical/brake parts cleaner to then clean all 4 surfaces. Degreaser/metho or fuel will all create a film which wont allow the gasket glue to set.. that's where I went wrong!

4) put a slight generous film of gasket glue on all surfaces, throw on your stainless gaskets and mate up all four bolts onto the flanges but dont compress yet! U have to coar all 4 bolt threads with it too to create a gasket under the head of the bolts. the leak on mine came from the turbo flange bolt clostest to the passenger side, because the flange sits on a weird angle. you MUST to do this bolt up first!! then do up the 1 next to it. this completely (should!) seal that part off!

6) match up the sump ones (these surfaces have a straight face and wont leak hence doing them last)

7) nip up all bolts to double check and allow to set for a few hrs.

if this fails.. then to hell with it, let the bastard leak! or weld it on!

hope this helps sum!
