I don't have that ratio fitted, but I reckon if you wanted to it would be because you love rowing the gearbox.buttrock.gif

I had 4:10's and found them great as a daily drive around Town because you could motor around in 5th at 60kmh.

- with 420rwkw!

Actually had less Gear changing!

I put 3:4's back in it and change more often, but better suited to Track work!

I dont really mind the cog swapping, has its own fun:) I bet the shortshifting is a laugh......

have any of you kiddies done the ring and pinion swap yourself? im pretty handy with the tools but I know my limits lol

would it be too much hassle to do a driveway job??

and also what kind of revs?ins fuel ave would you get at 110?

You have to drop the rear Cradle out to get to the Diff!

- I wouldn't recommend that for your Driveway!

From memory, the Car sat on about 3200-3500rpm on the Highway @ 110kmh.

I didn't really notice 'much' difference in the Fuel economy.

- I drove ex Sydney to Warwick in QLD on 4:10's and back with 3:04's!

At the end of the Day, the stock Diff Gears are pretty good allrounders!

Or it might have been about 2500-2800rpm @ 110kmh!

- I have had them out for about 18 Months now!

yeah might shift that into too hard/ prof help box, I think its only $1000 fitted for a ratio swap anyway

2500-2800rpm sounds a bit more like it:)

I ran 4.09's (4.11's dont exist for our diffs) for close too 3 years in my old ute. My Gear box is a Mal Woods special 012 part # box ratios are as follows (1st to 6th) 2.97. 2.07, 1.43, 1.00, .8 ,.62 (same and BA 2 and BF Typhoons) 1st was all over by 50kph. Second by 80kph 3rd by 110 kph cruising in 6th at 110kph was 2850 rpm. Sixth was a usable gear above 90kph.

My sedan has the same ratios but with 3.73 stock rear gear and IMHO this is better than the 4.09's. Turbo spool up time in 1st is quicker due to the higher load on the engine, wheel spin is easier to control and when it does break traction in 1st, 2nd or 3rd is slower to hit the rev limiter instead of buzzing straight up and bouncing off it before you can catch it.

You may well break even with stock ratios (2.66,1.78,1.3,1.00,0.74,0.5)and 4.09's when compared to my lower 1st 2nd and 3rd with the 3.73

As a comparison final drive ratios

2.97 1st and stock rear (3.73) is 11.078:1

stock 1st (2.66) and stock rear (3.73)is 9.9:1

stock 1st (2.66) and lower rear (4.09) is 10.89:1

My old car at 2.97 and 4.09 was 12.1:1 (!!) Hence why i wouldn't recommend 4.09's in A Man FPV

So basically to go from a stock 2.66(1st) to 3.73 final drive ratio of 9.9:1 to 2.66(1st) to 4.09 final drive ratio of 10.89:1 your looking at a 10% increase in gear reduction

Across the board the total reduction for each gear going from 3.73 to 4.09 is 9% if you go out and calculate kph v rpm you can work out exactly how many Kph per Rpm you will loose in each gear and also your crusing rpm at 80,90,100,110 etc etc

You will also find that the 4.09's will help you 60ft time at the strip (on decent tires) but you ET will suffer because you will run out of legs and have to grab 5th before the end of the run ( unless your happy to bounce it off the limiter for the top end of the strip)

my 22c's

Luke
