smicky Go Pies!!! Donating Members 2,852 Member For: 17y 3m 30d Gender: Male Location: Vic Somewhere - Sometimes NSW Posted 30/09/10 11:34 AM Author Share Posted 30/09/10 11:34 AM (edited) aaahhh - ok... thread hijacked I see! xcopbf - mate im down in vic weekend of the 8th.the problem is that I used to hit the gym 3 nights a week, however nothing for about 10 yrs. have a full CV room and weights room at my crash pad, however the gym gear is all the 'multi purpose' crap!as a result of time, memory, and weird machines im a little lost...Think this is the problem... oh yeah and walking in and seeing the big boys, just makes lil smicky wanna... Dillz - mate, when I train, I eat loads of eggs, chicken, and cerials. For me I 'need' carbs, and load hard up on protein... Milk and few big spoons of Milo, general vit tablet like swiss and that's it..But I have been pretty lucky and generally burn fat rather quick, (just put it on quick as well)... Build/tone pretty fast and well also... As for the fat burning/protein shakes - personally think it is all rubbish... have a few friends working in chemists and they also agree - over priced, brainwashing rubbish - Milo and milk is cheaper, and just as if not better!(Low fat, or no fat milk)... I was a fatty-fat-fat and decided to do something about it. I lost 25kg of lard and put on about 7kg in lean muscle in the first 2 years. BF % went from about 30% to 11% and I maintained it. Then about a year or so ago, I decided to lean up a little more as I wanted to get into single- digit BF%. In 3 months I lost about 4 kg and am now at about 8% BF.I pretty much did this on my own. Google was my friend as I researched and applied. I used a PT for 5 sessions right at the start just to get the correct technique for free-weights exercises.I think the most important thing you need to get on top of is nutrition. If you haven't got that in place, you can make little to no progress and reduce the effectiveness of your time in the gym. Eventually, it leads many to drop the ball as their results are not what they expected and they get disheartened. What are yo trying to achieve exactly? Get rid of fat? 'Bulk up' and get rid of some fat? What worked for me is to eat very 'clean' most days of the week (5 or 6) and splurge once or twice a week. For clean days, I stay away from red meats as while they are high in protein, they can be quite high in fat. Especially cuts like Scotch Fillet. So no bread, pasta, sugar etc on clean days as well. I mostly eat chicken breast, fish & seafood for meats, veggies and salad for carbs and things like raw almonds for good fats.Breaky cereals can have a fair wack of sugar in them so watch them. Oats are great maybe with a little honey, or some almonds or even a little fruit. Again, no toast in the morn on clean days.Power walking and H.I.I.T are both great for burning fat while not allowing your body to turn catabolic. When you put high energy demand on your body, it will eventually begin to use the more abundant energy stored in muscle tissue. This reduces your muscle mass and the 'engine' which burns the calories in the first place. I would avoid running as there is no need unless you are training for an event. You can see this in effect with AFL players. The guys who run a lot will start the year noticeably bulkier than what they finish the year.If you want to gain muscle, you need to get enough daily protein for your mass. A rough estimate is 3 grams of protein per kilo of body weight per day. Most meats and seafood give you about 20% protein. So a 500gm chicken breast will give you about 100 grams of protein. You can look up nutritional info of any foods online. And when you hit the gym, just work hard at whatever you do. Hope there's some useful info there. If not, too bad Cheers,Steph. stang Donating Members 1,353 Member For: 21y 4m 27d Location: Melbourne Posted 30/09/10 02:22 PM Share Posted 30/09/10 02:22 PM Everybody is different and has a different body shape, Depends if your skin and bones and want to put on bulk or if you just got a bit of a gut and want to lose that and put on muscle as well.Protien shakes work and that's the truth you will pack on bulk quicker with protein shakes than just eating lots of eggs.Do your research, Subscribe to a fitness magazine( I find mens fitness to be good) You tube is also your friend.Diet is also very important cut out the fast food and eat plenty of protein, but don`t overeat in one sitting. If you trying to lose around you gut cardio is the only thing that will do this. (I walk 10k`s 5 days a week and gym 5 days a week)Best of all stay motivated and dont quit. Actually, the exercise has nothing to do with where you loose weight. Wherever your body looses weight from is where you'll loose weight. Basically it comes down to the energy consumed versus energy expended. And stang gym 5 days a week seems like over training to me, unless your a body builder. Could be wrong though, just my thoughts.
