I would not have thought changing the tip would give me this cheap nasty sound. The tips must be a piece of sh*t as after driving the car today they have turned yellow and have started to melt the bar!!

I aint happy..Taking it back tommorow to get the stock one put back on.

Having said that the stock one is yellow too and its only 800km old

Yeah I worry my new exhaust will melt the bar as the pipes are a little set in from the edge. Something to watch out for, hope your damage isn't too bad mate??

I did a similar thing as the op but with a high quality double skinned stainless tip not chromed like the cheap stock tip

it sounds sh*t! like an au when flat out you can hear the vacuum sucking noise when you flat out and the sound bounces off the walls or parked cars... mine is 2x2.5" tip and looks bloody fantastic, but has hurt performance believe it or not, my acceleration figures as slower since fitting it and at first I did not believe it but its true.. also as with the op the sawed off the stock tip and welded on the new one nothing was touched anywhere else.... I say ditch it and get another one

Dillz has the right idea, they've obviously broken a join or cracked a weld on installation, unless you've had the rear muffler removed then had the tip installed there shouldn't be any noise difference at all.

I remember the standard join between the exhaust manifold and the cat on my N/A XR6 was just some kind of clamp after 6 months driving up and down a bumpy road she eventually came loose and the noise was horrific.

When I got new tips put on my cousin did on his old mans car.. We both noticed a change in exhaust note. His was an AU and it sounded pretty good and louder.. Mine just went louder.. I got 2 3" straight tips and he had a single into twin chrome tips put on. IMO that's your problem..

Lol that's funny, I just did the exact same thing to my car and it made little to no difference in note at all. Weird.

Hey Dillz, What tip did you change to? I really want to change to a twin. Was thinking of the Xforce twin, Perhaps this is better quality and wont give me the shriek sound
