Ok so I need some advice on which pistons to go for, budget is getting short. Considering Spool or Mahle at the moment, but open to all input.

Bit of background info on the car, http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=65944.

Melted #5 piston on my last trip down the drags, took the rings with it and scored the bore. So that was the first hurdle which was to be solved with a FG F6 short. Until I got a call from the engine reco mob with the second hurdle, head had been machined and a head stud kit and gasket kit bought when they said the head will take another couple grand to fix. So I scoured the net for engines, stumbling across a gem in a fg xr6t write off with 7000k's on the clock. Asked about it and the engine was undamaged, picked up the engine, coils and harness for under $6k. So the local workshop put it on a stand and flipped it ready to swap sumps and fit it for me. Sitting in the (dented) tray under the crank was the cause of hurdle #3, a nut that looks a lot like the ones holding the rods to the crank. Yep a fu@ken nut had been bouncing between the crank, pistons 4 and 5 and the tray. Bore looks fine but there is chips out of the piston skirts of those 2 pistons, and with my current run of luck I'd better replace them.

atomic / billet pistons/rods.

but on a budget, spool and agro seem to be fine. Dont know anyone running 600+ with them though. Only atomic stuff for the huge power.

we run howard rods and cp piston in my ute. my advice is while you at it get a girdle as well. you might as well spend the money while the engine is out. buy the best stuff you can buy not the best you can afford. if you have to save up for another couple of weeks for some parts do it. it will save you money in the long run and give you peace of mind

I've been thinking a bit, not really 100% on these but here's a few options I've been mulling over. Power aim this time is 360rwkw.

Option 1. MAHLE PISTONS XR6 AUSTRALIAN FORDS 3.633b 3.910s 6.057r: eBay Motors (item 230525081381 end time Oct-11-10 14:48:21 PDT)

Option 2. Get 2 new pistons from ford

Option 3. get 6 new pistons from ford

Option 4. some other brand of forged pistons

Option 5. put the engine in, sell it and cut my losses

what sort of power you want? if not 400+ then new from ford should do it, but I reckon go for cheapish forged would have to be better.

often the cheapest way is the dearest way though... :freak:

The new Mahle pistons are the shiznit... Revised skirts & ringlands mean they are great for high boost applications.

Can put you in contact with a supplier for the best pricing if you're interested? Just call me on 0431 700 570 for details.

If you can increase the budget though, the new Cosworth pistons that Atomic are selling would be my first choice :surrenderwave:

slash you're a bad influence, almost as bad as john :surrenderwave:

Got another option as well, FGF6 short. I've got a fg head now, a head stud kit and a gasket kit already. This would be my quickest option and the least stress.
