Hi Guys, I am new here, V8 convert, but I have just brought a demo model 2010 XR6T, apon delivery I noticed the intercooler pipes were dripping oil?

This cant be normal? I have read about blow by but this car has done 6000kms? is it a lemon, what should I do?

Blow by won't put oil in the turbo.

If oil is present before the turbo, what is happening is the tappet cover is being pressurised, aka boost is leaking into it, maybe through valve stem seals, and pushing oil out the breather into the intake pipes.

If it is only after the turbo the seals in the turbo are gone which is properly more likely. Pretty ceartin Ford don't build there own turbo's so this would be more a manfactures fault, however ford failed to identify it.

Hopefully I am overlooking something smaller thoug it does seem like a lemon.

A small amount of oil before the turbo (intake) is normal, I assume it comes from the breather which is connected to the intake from the engine.

Seeping out of your intercooler piping would be a concern. Id get that checked out. Ford should replace the turbo under warranty if it is in fact the problem.

Good luck with it.

How do you come to this conclusion? If blowby does not put oil in the turbo then where does it come from?

The only way the 'tappet cover' gets pressurised is by blowby........and not just from valve stem seals. If it was driven softly for the first 6000kms then there is a fair chance the bores are glazed, which will cause blowby.

jgxr, do you have any pictures you could post of these leaks?

I have the EXACT same situation as you...

2010 XR6T... at 5,000kms I noticed oil on the outside of the hot pipe just after the turbo...

I took it to ford and their response was "its completely normal for oil to pass through the turbo"...

just noticed last night that now oil is seaping out of the pipe just before the intake manifold as well... so the intercooler must be filled with oil by now...

I'll be taking it back to ford next week to beat them around the ears... :(

lol, I am having this same thing happening, and was told it is normal. It definatly has given my tidy engine bay a black eye. The turbo has dirty sh*t on it. When I wriggle the pipe oil seeps out, should I take the pipe off and wipe up the oil so the pipe doesn't slip on the turbo? Then put it back and hit it with degreaser??
