Unless you've tried it, you wouldn't understand the skill involved and the satisfaction it (can) give. Great game, great company, fresh air, travel, fierce competition (at district level and above) ... and you can have a cleansing ale! Lawn Bowls! Tried it once .Got suckered in to represent our office at a "novices day" with a couple of guys and a gal. None of us had ever played before. Weather was good, so thought what the heck. OKGot to the club, and there were all these silver grey vehicles in the car park We were all wearing SA Sports Institute track suits, and made our way in and introduced ourselves to the organisers. We then realised that it wasn't a novices day, but a "Novelty Day", and all the competitors were the best 4's from all the leading clubs in the state. O-Oh! This was going to be embarrasing Anyway, the other teams seeing us in the SASI trackies, thought we were international grade ring-ins. We quickly cleared that thought though, cause our team captain opened with a 100 kph bouncer, which missed the jack by 60 cm, and hit the concrete gully at the other end so hard, that it jumped 3 feet, and continued through the ornamental roses and took out 4 bricks from the fence. My first bowl went across field, and hit the wheelchair of a competitor on the other end 4 lanes over! I got the bias the wrong way round. After a few apologies given, and tips taken on how to bowl, we proceeded to give it our best shot. It was DAMN hard. These old farts were very, very good. Just when you thought you had it won, they'd play a curve bowl, and take it out again. End after end after end! With the last end being played, we hadn't won any points at all. We were reminded that standing rules applied: If no ends won at all, we would HAVE to do a lap of the greens without our pants! Not real funny, especially for our female team mate, who confided that as it was a warm day, she didn't have any underwear!Last team player, last bowl, I managed to get my ball within 3 cm of the jack to save the day. Had a great time after the match enjoying the beers and the girls in the club house put on a feast. Great day.But not again. by the way, I also enjoyed the movie Crackerjack. Good laugh.cheers

But then again I reckon dynosteves car just oozzes appleal. So all depends on the way u look at things
