Every second hand car dealer in the world selling an ex-police car will tell you it has a police chip in it....

Ask them to show you where it is....

Bog Stock, maybe a beefier suspension package and premium brakes on chasers would be it but only if a standard option.

Driven hard, serviced often, flicked at 30,000

About 15 months ago I followed an XR8 traffic car in Canberra for a bit. I was surprised to see Herrod badging on the boot. No idea what mods it was running.

I think Canberra might be an exception to the rule..

I have heard they have an XR6 Turbo with a phase 3 kit on it....

Good luck getting away from that...

Heya, at least in NSW cop packs have petrol and oil tank guards and beefier suspension. I think civvies can buy the cop pack as an option.

Many years ago my old man had an ex cop EA falcon and the back seat never sat in place properly. We can only assume that's where they keep the shotty or they had some other sh*t in the back. Strange compartments in the boot too!

I have a friend that prepares the Vic Police cars and according to him they are stockers. Apart from all the things that have been listed above by the guys are also correct.(wiring looms, alternator etc) There are no engine changes (Aparently there used to be years ago) Bommadores get FE2 suspension and stocker steelies with potenza tyres, as well as uprated brake pads, Ford HWY patrol car's get premo brakes and uprated pads but I am not sure about suspension or tyre changes.

Apparently every now and then they will test different aftermarket options, but it is Very rare with budget constraints and legalities controlling this side of things

I agree they always sound tougher to me, and seem to go like a cut cat but then again it could just be how they drive them

I agree with JB at a recent ACT (federal) Police open day I asked a HWP guy the same thing and he said hs XR8 was stock, with prem brakes as the only option. He said they used thier advanced driver training and the radio to get an edge over the villians.

As the the moded Police XR6T here in town it was just a bit of a practical joke by one of the officers, I think it was a 'WGR enhanced' badge on the bottlid near the trubo badge. Wane Gardner Racing. But the car was stock.

I'm sure Plonky would confirm that HWP cars are all essentially stock in the power department.

Its only the ancillarys that are added.

So......where is said Plonkster these days.....?? I for one miss his input.

Test drove an ex-police car 2004 XR8 MkI Sedan yesterday and was surprised how well it went. Seemed to go harder than my ute ever did. This was probably more to do with the "police endorsed" run-in procedure (drive it like you stole it) than any different engine software settings/programs.

The interior lights did not turn on when opening the doors, but the dash had been returned to non-police mode.

Overall, I was impressed with the quality/condition of the vehicle, having done 60,000 kms it still felt tight and the interior was even in good condition.

The warranty service book didn't have one stamp in it for scheduled services, the windscreen had a service sticker on it saying it was due a service at 70,000 kms, I wonder were the new owner would stand with a warranty claim??

Not sure what pads were fitted to the premium brakes, but they performed excellently and with not a hint of squeal or noise at all.

Winter White does look good, a set of royal blues stripes would really set it off!!

I purchased an ex-police XR8 today, 2004 XR8 with all the usual police options (premium brakes, side airbags and reverse sensors).

I pick it up Friday, looking forward to the BA driving experience again!

Thanks for the feedback guys and I will let you all know how it goes.

Here it is:
