......VG has definitly got a problem! It is so hard being so damned good! Build a bridge will ya.

I'm not sure that VG has a problem (as such) ... I imagine it's hard to be in a profession trying to do the right thing, when all you really hear is how everybody thinks you're doing the wrong thing.

I'm not trying to defend anyone here, it's just that I think policing has got to be one of the most difficult tasks to take on and do well.

VG agree with everything you said.......here comes the BUT

The scrutiny of the policing profession is not an attitudidal issue, it is a reflection of how important the role of policing is in a civilalised society to maintain law and order.

Those of us who are fair dinkum, understand this notion and are happy to cooperate.

Unfortunately, focus is placed on an individual's negative experiences which naturally creates negative perceptions of the police.

Accept it - please don't feel obliged to justify it.

For the record after reading many of the posts from both VG and PLONKY - I genuinely have a lot more respect for the policing profession! Keep up the good work and don't be tempted to be always defend your turf.

I have been mates with a lot of police over the last 25 years but this bloke takes the cake. What 3rdTurbo says is right and Ken also but Redhawk mentions "with the territory" and that's what this bloke has to realise.

Don't give me the 'that's what this bloke has to realise' sh*t.

You have been 'friends' with a lot of coppers over the last 25 years well guess what, I have actually been one for 14 years. My experience comes from actually doing the job, rather than 'warries' from my mates

I will more than accept that certain things come with the territory. Seems my territory get focussed on a lot more than others.

I also accept that theres a fair share of dickheads in every job (and a few on this forum it seems), and yes, Policing has its fair share, but its seems funny that every single post that mentions policing in it goes down the same lines (the coppers are dickheads, I was 'robbed', they were doing it themselves etc etc).

Like I say, if people feel so strongly about the actions of Police then they have avenues to go down. Like I say, there are 2 sides to every story.

"Stop being so thin skinned, there is a topic on Servic Dept. issues everytime there is a thread about police you get on your soap box. What you think all coppers are perfect like yourself??? "

Please tell me at what stage I have professed myself to be perfect ? I have made mistakes in my career, and will make them in the future. I am the one who enlightns you on certain issues surrounding policing that even I had to check up on

There is no other aspect of Policing where people's opinion are so polarised than in traffic law enforcement. This is because, for 99% of the population this is the only time they will encounter Police. Of the people we encounter in traffic I would suggest that the first thing that comes out of their mouth every time they get pulled over is some sort of denial that they were doing anything wrong. That is human nature. It seems strange that people will go on and on about how badly done by they were by the Police, yet go in and pay the fine because 'it was just easier'. What a crock !

I have been the informant on quite a few traffic matters in Court and guess what, I have lost the occasional one. If people feel a certain way then do something about it. Dont take the typical Aussie line and whinge and moan about it after you've paid the ticket. Its a done deal then.

When I enter into these discussions lets not forget that I'm not the one who initiates the discussions about how bad the Police were. I simply reply as I am damn proud of what I do. I will continue to do it. We are not perfect, we are not god, but at the end of the day the community is a bit safer because at least somebody is out there trying. We all make mistakes but if you go in and pay the fine then you're admitting to a wrong doing and in every situation described above there was a way out of it without a ticket.

I built a bridge many, many years ago. I accpet people have had negative experiences when getting tickets and that the coppers attitude may not have been the best but jjjeeeeessssuuuusssss ! Its like a broken record sometimes, and I only reply to the fractured vinyl, I dont start it.

I have nothing but praise for the police. I once got stopped for doing about 100 in an 80 zone. The cop asked why. I just said that I saw a car tailgating me (it was him) and I just sped up to pass a car to change lanes. He just checked my lsense etc and just gave me a warning ;)

Another time I was involved in an accident that was clearly me fault. The police woman just gave me a caution for my part and I was damn happy about it. I was expecting to loose atleast a few points and get a decent fine.

Yet another time, way back when I was about 12 or so. The family are going to Melbourne for a wedding. On the way my dads stopped for speeding at about 120 in a 100km zone. My dad says that he's trying to get the "kids" to a toilet. Cop looks in the back at me and my brother (we looked all freaked out) and he just said "OK, I'll let you off, just slow down"..

And even another time I was doing 138km/h in a 110km/h zone. Copper puts me in the 0-15km/h over bracket after I "explain". "Sorry, I was just changing a CD and I wasn't paying much attention to the speedo". He looks in the passenger side, sees and open cd folder etc ;)

Nothing but praise for resonable folk.
