BTW, does anyone else's occupation get sledged on this forum ? I'm not overly sensitive, 15 years on the job has stopped that. But just curious. Never seen anyone else's job pointed out and bagged

Unfortunately it comes with the territory Velvet, it is a car forum after all.

Although your not alone really the manufactures are getting there fair shair of bagging.

I'm with you VG!

I must admit it is hard not to fire back a post when someone does the usual spray on the Police. Sometimes I can take it in my stride knowing that deep down everyone that has bagged out the Highway Patrol secretly would love to do all the thing that they think we do (hooning around in nice cars, booking the people they don't like, driving through red lights etc)

Pity they don't realise the reality of what we do and one of those realities is listening to people whinge and sook because they got caught doing something they know they're not supposed to do and expect us to book everyone except them!!

Its a job that is not all fun and excitement, if I wanted that then I would be in the Australian media. Pretend to be someone else and write/produce/make shows about people/institutions that conflict with my liberal (small L) beliefs.

I think we might start picking on accountants like Ken said!! LOL

OK I'll get the ball rolling, Accountant right here, and I don't care what you respond with as in 2 days time I'll be too busy in my new T to be worried at all. I know of at least 2 other accountants driving Ts in NZ as well.

So how cool do you all feel driving "Accountants Cars" ??

they have plenty of fords, all the paddy wagons are falcon utes, and they have some unmarked xr's - well at least one (AU).

as to why they don't use SS's and XR's more as the norm, similar to other states, that's anyones guess. Maybe Barry Mathews (commissioner) knows something every other commisioner doesn't.

Also WA police seldom get involved in chases, policy is to abort once speeds get "excessive", which is obviously more often than not.

but then again wa has the worst crime rate in australia......

go figure :drivingalong:

give it a few years, they'll catch up :D

police officers have 3 different ratings when driving on duty.

from my vague memory,

rating 3. They are not allowed to chase as novice copper behind the wheel, or has lost points or had driving offences in the past.

rating 2. Are allowed to chase but only to certain speeds, cant remember up to what something like 140km I think, the chase can be called off at any time from head quarters

rating 1. It is up to the driver whether to chase or not... higher power than the guys from headquarters that call off the chases, im guessing all highway patrols have this rating. can chase up to unlimited kms per hour

plus all the above has to contact the headquarters (police station or something like that) when a chase is to be pursued.

and dont ask how I know this

In WA the HWP have been forced to go from the V8 as the sooks who run the show over there don't like having criminals caught for crime. Invariably they have a large proportion of juvenile crime and in recent times some had been injured in collisions as a result of not stopping for the Police.

It is a typical pathetic syndrome that is prevalent in Australia. Most do-gooders would rather look after the rights of crims than of the victim and traffic crime is seen as victimless crime so it has less importance placed upon it.

As far as driver classification goes, in NSW there are no restrictions on speed etc etc. However, Bronze classification drivers are not to exceed the speed limit or engage in urgent duty/pursuit unless they have completed their Silver classification course. This is basically the Depts defensive driving course and runs for a week.

Amazing isn't it. On one hand the car haters at the RTA are trying to slow everyone down to walking pace and state that defensive driver training causes more accidents, and on the other hand all Police Depts as well as Govt. depts have their drivers trained to a certain level (or in the case of Highway Patrol - an extremely high level) to protect them on the road and as a risk management tool.

It is easier to set up stationary speed cameras as another form of tax, than to put the money back into mandatory retrospective defensive driver training.

Well put Grant and I agree wholeheartedly ...

Ah yes, the fantasy and the reality !

The joy of being asked 50,000 times on a Saturday night 'can I get a lift home?' or the personal favourite 'are you working?'. No mate, standing around in my uniform on my own time.

Yeah sure the manufacturers get a bagging, but that is large scale anonymous industry we are talking about. The Police stuff gets really quite personal. There's 2 sides to every story though, the trouble is we never get to tell ours

LOL
