Whilst driving down Springvale Road (east of Melbourne), I noticed an umarked Phatom XR6T who was just in the process of booking a motorist.

So it you ever want to take on another T at the lights, just make sure it isn't a Phatom.

VG, was that you driving ?...

Not only is it unmarked its had the rear TURBO badge removed.

The car I saw had the Turbo badge there in all its glory....that's how I knew.....unless of course the cops are now driving N/As, and sticking Turbo badges on them to confuse us motorists...

That car is from the Frankston TMU, and VicPol ain't buying anymore XR6Ts, in fact in our region (police area) they are not going to have unmarked TMU cars at all anymore, so the unmarked T is shortly to be a thing of the past.

Ahhh....the old scarecrow effect!

In NSW, Michael Costa (whilst he was Police Minister) was at a Police Ministers meeting and when the topic arose about the percentage of marked cars in the fleet, NSW only had 60%.

So to make sure that he could trump the other States, he directed the Commissioner to have a 100% fully marked fleet.

Obviously due to covert cars, Detectives cars, Jellyfish Alley cruisers (Administration staff at Headquarters etc) needing to be unmarked the Fleet was 95% fully marked.

This is a strategy called the scarecrow effect: Displacing criminals from one area to another and making the law abiding citizen feel warm and fuzzy with the 'impression' that there are more Police on the street.

It is an adaptation of an old Russian saying "Potemkin Village". This is where the Czar would have single dimensioned villages beautifully made to sit alongside the river so visiting dignataries would gain a false impression of the wealth of the Country.

It is just propoganda in it's lowest form!!! :censored: :banghead:

Driving around the Greensborough area of VIC, I've seen one unmarked T in silver.

Oh! and just remembered lol was at the drive through bottle shop and an old XF wagon pulls up with 4 'blokes' slamming down VB cans. Right behind them is a lovely looking lady cop in her leather jaket sitting in her Black VA XR8.. ouch... carefull people :hrmm:

Heading north? Expect to see a police car every 40km

16, December 2003

If you’re heading north this summer, expect to see a police car at least every forty kilometres as police prepare to help everyone reach their holiday destination safely.

Operation Safe Arrival, the Christmas and New Year road safety campaign, begins at 0001 hours on Friday 19 December and continues during Christmas and New Year. The campaign targets speeding drivers, drink drivers and people not using seatbelts, child restraints or motorcycle helmets properly.

Northern Region Traffic Co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Mal Read said Operation NorthRoads running until 1 February 2004, encompassing summer school holidays in New South Wales and Queensland.

“Approximately 40 per cent of road deaths in this area have occurred on the Pacific Highway/F3 Freeway from its start at Brooklyn through to the Queensland border and the New England Highway. The major causes of these crashes have been cars running off the road on bends and head on collisions possibly caused by tired drivers and/or drivers being impatient when overtaking.

“Drivers on the Pacific Highway/F3 Freeway from Brooklyn to the Queensland border, and New England Highway/Golden Highway from Hexham to Willow Tree can anticipate to see a patrolling police vehicle every 40 to 60 kilometres, no matter what time of the day or night.

“During times of peak holiday traffic in the state’s north especially around resort areas, additional police including motorcyclists from the Traffic Support Group will be supplementing the activities of local police in an effort to encourage motorists to slow down and not to drink and drive.”

Senior Sergeant Read said radio and television advertising, roadside message boards and bridge banners will used along the North Coast to remind motorists of the risks of speeding, drink driving and driving while they are tired. Double demerit points for all speeding and seatbelt offences will be in place from 19 December to 2 January.

This is why I love having cruise control. Takes the temptation away from being a "lead foot driver".
