Yeah pretty sure that they are as they left the showroom floor... except for different brake pads to aid the chase if necessary.

The only difference is that they give it (government backed) sh*t... :crybaby: all the time because they aren't paying the bills.

Very rarely do you see Mr. Bog Stock Standard VY/VZ SS give his car the curry... and same goes for Mr. Bog Stock Standard XR6T who has his car on a lease (or whatever), with no mods and is unaware of the potential of his car outside of the fact that it's HEAPS quicker than the SV6 he test drove...

Obviously present company excepted... which leaves a LOT of VY/VZ SS and XR6T owners out there...

(from previous post) who have no idea as to the potential of their cars if a few 'little' add on's are put to task...

I had written heaps more than that but it seems to have disappeared :crybaby: ... anyway it's gone now, so I'm going to bed

A highway partrol guy rents a unit up from me, he drives an SS and some times a XR8, he always said that they Ford have different down loads when he takes the XR8 in for service.

Me I think Ford may have some think, but most likely its just somthing to make cops feels good about the stock XR or SS their driving.

The different downloads would be more likely to do with istrument cluster calibrations and alternate flashing headlights (police mode). I know for a fact that Expensive Daewoo has implimented these sort of features into the VY/VZ range and just enables them for vehicles being bought for police duties.

Spot on YOOT.

The police mode enables features such as no interior lights, indicators don't flash on lock/unlock, trip computer replaced by digital speedo and increased idle speed to keep the alternator going to power all the gear just to name a few.

Test drove an ex-police car 2004 XR8 MkI Sedan yesterday and was surprised how well it went. Seemed to go harder than my ute ever did. This was probably more to do with the "police endorsed" run-in procedure (drive it like you stole it) than any different engine software settings/programs.

The interior lights did not turn on when opening the doors, but the dash had been returned to non-police mode.

Overall, I was impressed with the quality/condition of the vehicle, having done 60,000 kms it still felt tight and the interior was even in good condition.

The warranty service book didn't have one stamp in it for scheduled services, the windscreen had a service sticker on it saying it was due a service at 70,000 kms, I wonder were the new owner would stand with a warranty claim??

Not sure what pads were fitted to the premium brakes, but they performed excellently and with not a hint of squeal or noise at all.

Winter White does look good, a set of royal blues stripes would really set it off!!

Every second hand car dealer in the world selling an ex-police car will tell you it has a police chip in it....

Ask them to show you where it is....

Bog Stock, maybe a beefier suspension package and premium brakes on chasers would be it but only if a standard option.

Driven hard, serviced often, flicked at 30,000

About 15 months ago I followed an XR8 traffic car in Canberra for a bit. I was surprised to see Herrod badging on the boot. No idea what mods it was running.

Police vechical are essentially the same but:

Bigger alternator

Slight wiring changes (high beam heavy duty)

Pads

Most likely rotors have been replaced (were using DBA replacements for a while).

Expensive Daewoo however has recently made a few police specials. Executives with 15 or 16" steelies and V8's. And SS's with 17" wheels instead of 18"'ers.. While back in the old days things were a bit diffrent.

most are taken out of police ECU mode when decommissioned.

I think Canberra might be an exception to the rule..

I have heard they have an XR6 Turbo with a phase 3 kit on it....
