Guest highfields Guests Posted 26/03/03 01:39 PM Share Posted 26/03/03 01:39 PM I am a new member and will be getting mine in April. Just to correct some facts about what people are saying about the XRs with the NSW Police. We have purchased XR6T for the Police not necessarily for Highway Patrol, but for other special duties and I would thing that we would probably see XR6T cars purchased for the Highway Patrol if the technical problem with the XR8s autos not resolved soon. (either the auto's are not meant to handle the 260KW or some other technical problem and I am sure Ford technical people will solve it soon). As for the WRXs we had received from Subaru about 8 all togather we did not buy them they were given to us for trials. Whilst they were very good in the wet and at low speeds around town they lacked the top speed on the open roads which the XRs or SS did have the upper hand on. As for some of you contemplating out runing the High Patrol you should remember this quote "Should the time arise for you to out run us, you may not live long enough to enjoy driving the XR6T." Drive carfull and take good care of the XR6T on the road. I'll wave or sound my sirens or flash my blue lights to you in good gesture the next time I see an XR6T on the road.Alan

Already there have been too many incidents where a brand spanking new XR6t or XR8 have been totaled. These cars have great power and with great power comes greater responsibility. I know its been said before but I'd hate to hear that any one of you had been seriously hurt.I've also said this b4. "It's not how fast you get there, it's how cool you look geting there". :D Let's face it, in any XR/GT, we definatleyhave the upper hand. Damn sweet looking pieces of machinery. Unfortunately, the latest bit of gear the AFP have strapped a siren to which I saw in Canberra City today whilst out for a lunchtime walk is TJ Magna aka Jap Zero . I am the not-so-proud owner of a Magna and as I look at the AFP's new cruiser I now know why they have people cover their faces on the news getting out of the cop cars...you would too if you were being hauled out of a Magna Although, it's not as bad as when I was in NZ in 2000 and saw TR Magna's ('92) being used for highway patrol on the South Island....eeek  I saw that Magna the other day out my way with a radar or speed camera hanging off it, accompanied by a couple of motorbike cops.I haven't seen any BA cop cars in the flesh as yet, I saw a white one on the TV news the other day when the cops made a bust on someone (drugs I think). I think it was only an XT but it had the full lights and stripes etc.I did see a Narooma Blue BA XT at the dealer back in November or so that looked like it had just come off the delivery truck, it hadn't been detailed, no hubcaps and there was some paperwork on the dash indicating that this car was for AFP.I think people would be rather silly to try and out run a cop even if your car was more powerful or faster as cops do an intensive driver training course and would probably drive better. Not to mention the peoples lives you put at risk (apart from your own) while you are fanging arround the streets. I'm sure all the cop needs to do is to take down your rego number and send you the fine in any case. As a number of us have personalised or custom number plates this task is made a lot easier. No use having a beaut car sitting in the driveway or garage gathering dust, undriven because you lost your licence.

Have you seen that bright red AU XR with the highlighter yellow stripes along the side? Looks a bit womble. Occassionally see it driving through here in the city as I am waiting at the bus interchange.Of course, then there was that Volvo that got lent to the AFP which ended up written off at City Markets a couple of years back. Would imagine Volvo Australia were none to pleased about that.

The cops were suposedly chasing a Rex when they crashed the Ovlov. I think Volvo gave them another (different model) to replace the bent one. Redhawk ....Time to lay this fairytale aside...... Donating Members 2,657 Member For: 21y 8m 16d Gender: Male Location: In the Ferry on the River Styx, not getting out just yet! Posted 27/03/03 02:50 AM Share Posted 27/03/03 02:50 AM There is one way you could try the cops XR6T's on legally , organisa a day at Eastern Creek, now that would create some publicity. And I reckon there wouldn't be any shortage of 'the boys in blue' and XR6T owners in NSW to take up the challenge. Pity I'm in Perth :(

Guest suttoinc Guests Posted 02/04/03 09:21 AM Share Posted 02/04/03 09:21 AM I saw a black unmarked car the other day, I didn't have a good enough look but I guess it was a TOG revenue raising machine. I didn't try to drag him.
Guest Phantom Guests Posted 04/04/03 04:23 AM Share Posted 04/04/03 04:23 AM The Drive liftout in the SMH today reports 10 XR6T's with premium brakes have been bought as pursuit vehicles.Apart from bagging the standard brakes it's all good. Here's some quotes from the article;"With 0-100 kmh acceleration time of six seconds, the turbo "chaser" is quicker than the highway patrol's current V8-powered Fords and Holdens""The Falcoln XR6 Turbo was intended as temporary replacement for the Falcon XR8 which has been delayed until the end of this month. But police are evaluating the model as a potential fixture on the Highway Patrol fleet""Testing by Drive has shown that the XR6 Turbo is quicker than the XR8."
