been thinking bout removing middle muffler, but thought if got sick of noise means back to shop to put back in. so went on ebay and bought a varex rear remote control muffler $389. will fit some time next week and can make it loud when I want and quiet when I want. I don't think there be a performance gain, but should sound allright and pass any decibel test aswell. since I have a xforce exhaust it's a straight bolt on no modifying what so ever.

I can see your logic, although it is flawed somewhat. Removing the centre muffler is about creating less restiction, although it will produce a better exhaust note also. OK lets get into the science, by removing the centre muffler you are allowing exhaust gases to flow faster and further away from the heat source. Now as we move further away from heat source, exhaust gas cools. This means that as gases get cooler they need less area to flow. Remember hot expands, therefore as the exhaust moves down the path the smaller the exit point needs to be. This is why 4 inch dumps make more power than 3 inch (because it is at the heat source exit point), it has all to do with thermal expansion. Therefore spending $100-$150 on centre muffler removal is money spent wisely, cheers

Kink, I feel that you may have missed my point, but if noise is want you want this a simple question to answer. All vehicles have a decibel rating as do lawn mowers. I would suggest that the Varex would be legal when closed, but illegal when open (but it is a rear muffler, resonator, if your running 3 mufflers before it you will not notice a difference), so mate go for your life. But open her up and the girls will know you are a seriouly player, Cheers

Yea, all the information I find leans towards it being illegal. Thought it sounded too good to be true. Noisy like ya want it, and quiet when you need it to be.

So xcopbf put up some pictures and/or some sound clips if possible when she is all done, would be interesting to see, too many people have been too scared to try it.

I have heard the varex system myself. Very impressed at what it does. Is it for our vehicles dontknow.gif

I would like to give it a try though. I'm not sure you would bother on an xforce that isn't really that noisy though. Like others have said if you open up your exhaust system then this might be the option for you. As to legality I doubt it, they are designed to cover up what noise your car makes therefore normally something else is not legal.... What mods are these days?? Not many

look forward to seeing what you are doing though. Outside the square is always good.

Ive got one for my Starion turbo project.

Not legal as its user changable, not factory ecu controlled.

Im going to run the risk of being caught. If I get caught ill cop it.

Mate runs one on his sleeper triton with a 4g63T. Goes from lumpy turbo noise idle to quieter then stock

lets not forget Astin Martins run a very similar setup, when cruising around the gases go through the exhaust right to the back for a nice street sound, if you put your foot into it the computer opens the exhaust right after the cat.

Very popular system and has been used for ages, if your a top gear fanatic like me you will hear Clarksons comments on the exhaust often.
