Now, I am not here to sh*t stir or anything else, I am a ford owner and have only really owned fords(4 straight!)due to mystical forces, that's what has appeared for sale when I was looking for a car and since that's the case, I have no real brand loyalty and have an open mind and the desire to purchase a new or near new car. I have been generally a jap guy up until we emmigrated from the UK to OZ 2yrs ago(skylines/wrx etc ) but we now want a new car, so heres my dilemma, wife loves the VE ss/Bogan special and the runout prices are 40K give or take...we can buy a new car or up to 2yrs old max ! with remserve.... we went in a month ago and put a deposit down on a VE-SS and it went pear shaped for a few reasons and pulled the plug on that deal so we are now free agents again and I want to weigh up the pro's and cons before I decide what happens next !

what we've seen so far is that the power is the same (270kw for manuals, dont want an auto)but the SS has 6 airbags as to 2 on the xr6t and wqe have kids so that is a factor to a degree ! . other than that, can anyone tell me the pro's and cons of each of these and give me any feedback on the xr6t's from 2008-2010 ?

I am after the fun factor and driving experience but the wife wants cool looks and a safer car which will handle the motorway for work trips ! the local garage has the new xr6t 50th in stock but not a manual in sight which is what I'd like to try out !

I know its a XR6T forum and all that stuff but try to be as honest and unbias as possible :D

ps, things I may be interested in are ease of tuning, reliability, parts upgrade availability (love to tinker and love power !) and general feedback !

would prefer to buy a low Klm 2009 car to save and spend up to 35k

Just drive both the auto then manual back to back if you can. I personally prefer the manual but as you will find out later a lot of the members here prefer the 6 speed auto. Yes I do realise you dont like them but if your shelling out that sort of coin it isnt gonna hurt.

As far as the air bags. The sedans come standard with 4 air bags. One in each front seat and the one in the wheel and dash. You can also option (if buying new) the extra two that deploy from the B-pillars just above the seat belts.

Look to try and get the premium sound. It comes with the colour screen and Ipod bits. Its very easy to use your ipod from the sound systems in these cars. Some people dont think its worth it but for me, im very happy with it. I think you get 7 speaker as opposed to 4.

Yep they both have 270kw but what makes the turbo falcon feel quicker is how the torque is delivered. From 1800rpm you have 80% of its max torque and at 2000 you have the complete 533NM of it.

As far as mods. members have seen as high as 290 Rear wheel KW just from a tune. To that takes the actual motor out put in KW's to well in the mid 300KW's

They are also pretty good on fuel and im averaging 10.8 l/100. Its been down as low as 10.1. On a trip other members have returned averages of 9L/100

Mine is only standard at the moment and yet it still brings a smile to my face when I give it a hit.

As for reliability all cars have problems. My Ba turbo went back for warranty numerous times. But now with the FG I have only been back once for an I pod related software update for the premo sound.

Hope this helps

thanks, that's the kinda stuff I was after..... I may like the auto, I am unsure... the VE auto was sh*t ! jumped 2 gears when one was enough and laggy etc... is the auto a semi-auto as in paddle shift or tip tronic like the BA ?

Tiptronic. I didnt like it when I drove one. It never felt like it was in the right gear and felt like it was constantly hunting if you know what I mean. I did however find the kick down in the auto to be awesome. Hit the pedal then whack.

ok, will try both if I get the chance.. seems the auto in the ford isnt as delayed in response as the holden...which will be a good thing ! I like it to change when I decide, not when it gets round to it ! so we'll see how we go with that ! thanks.

if power figures are part of it , ford turbos are usually under estimated as they still need to sell the xr8's some new f6 fg's have dynoed a much higher figure than fords stated 310kw

Expensive Daewoo always seem to struggle to produce their advertised power outputs.

I was after a toy to play with so got a bf but if you want a daily family car + fun don't know how you could go past the fg turbo.

Think the XRT is about half a second quicker to 100 aswell.

General rule of thumb is if you want noise go the SS if you want a quick car that isn't to expensive to modify looks the part and is much more fun to drive go the XRT.

This.

A big problem with the Expensive Daewoo SS is when you start adding things to the mix it becomes a dog to drive, especially in manual. Friend of mines boss' SS crewman with 500+ hp stalls with the aircon on if your parking it. Have to turn everything off and really get into it to get it to move.

I'm also in the same boat (lul) as you, however I've got a N/A xr6 so I already know what I'm in for in regards to quality. I much prefer the handling and ride in my XR than in my friends VZ SS from the same year.

If you are happy to buy the Ford Turbo in automatic form and you really want 6 airbags go with the G6E turbo, but they are dearer an XR6T, but you must also consider that both the XR6t and SS/V have a 5 star ANCAP safety rating. However, when you drive the ford I can assure you that you will not want the holden. Without forcrd induction in the Expensive Daewoo you will have to cam it up, the go these days to make about 300 RWKW,is mapless tune Over the radiator intake and a 232/232 cam, value springs, and a good exhaust, however the cam will not start making power until about 4000 rpm, but will run up to 6500rpm. Therefore, you have to ring its neck to make power. This will affect longer durability. This will cost around $7-8000.00. Spend that on an Fg and hang on. Buy the Ford, Cheers

the auto in the fg is supreme. they bolt them into maserati's and other top end euro cars...
