Been looking for an auto Fg XR6T for some months now (white with parking sensors)with a max budget up to 35k, but in my area (Newcastle) there have only a handful but wrong colour an overpriced. Started to read about the G6ET, but most were priced above 35k or had higher k`s on them. Having read about diff `noises` /thud etc, faulty outside temp reading, oil leaks and other problems, I was aware of what to look for in particular the diff problem, as I would hate to have any problems with a car from day one. Test drove a July 08 G6ET today, first impression was `fork-n-hell` gearbox was so smooth, no diff noises when standing start (flat to the floor (just to be be sure I checked this several times), or when changing down gears upon pushing the accelerator to the floor or when backing-off. Handling was much better than I thought, its a big car though the feel is not overly heavy. Body roll was not too bad, overall I was quite impressed. The car has a tow bar, tint, slim weather shields, and bonnet protector with 45,000 K`s on the clock.

Its in very good condition with 2 minor marks/scrapes on the front bar (only one is noticeable but may polish out)Interior is blemish free and looks great in black. The car has been listed for sale for the last couple of months and every few weeks the price would drop.

I didn`t want to pay the listed price and after some negotiation settled on what I think is a good (great?) price. Paid a deposit today and pick it up in the morning (I feel like a kid getting his first bike). What a great car, my only concern is it kept losing/fighting for traction at the rear wheels but I can certainly live with that and adjust mt driving to suit.

Congrats mate, shame it's not an XRT but better then nothing.

I'm in the same boat as you, was thinkin G6ET for a brief second but the way I look at it is say the LSD on the XR cancels out the premium sound on the G6 (bout same price) then I can't justify the extra 5 or so grand just for leather interior as that's the only real difference asside from the bodykit on the XR.

Just the conclusion I came too, not trying to take the wind out of your sales. Still a great car.

The XRT interior looks just bland compared to the G6ET (though still good !), its more than the leather, it has every single option (and more)than the T e.g., reverse camera reverse sensors, ipod/blue tooth and other features as well. For the money and for what you get I`d still pick the G6ET, yes an LSD would make a fantastic car just that much better, but having said that I don`t (actually won`t)drive it that hard often enough to not appreciate an LSD. If it ever got to the point where I thought that the car really really suffers by not having a LSD then maybe consider fitting one. If I had lots of $$$ and could afford new tires often then who knows.

I could not get a XR6T with low K`s for the money I paid.

I appreciate your opinion though.

Yeah I suppose it's a personal thing too and how far you want to go with the car, check out wagmans thread. Probably the hottest G6ET out there.

You will be really happy with the car, I have had mine just over a month and love it.

Agree an LSD would be nice, but not the end of the world.

If you spend every second day on a track then an LSD would be a must...personally I'm still lovin' the open diff on suburban streets/corners/roundabouts.

Congrats on your purchase hrick, you won't be disappointed. Not sure what diff noises you were referring to though - only issue that's a no-cost-option in all of them is the driveline shunt.

What colour is it?

...and good luck trying to sleep tonight :spoton:

Thanks, Its Silk (I think it will grow on me), from the posts I`ve been reading for the last 10 months refer to a range of diff noises from a massive `thud` to lessor noise descriptions, ppl have posted that diff bushes/housing issues, my knowledge is limited, so the drive line shunt sounds like it could be it? How could I tell ?

Sleep...can`t get the bloody thing out of my mind, I`ve got a lot of work to do this week, but am thinking of taking a few days to read the manual and become familiar with it/car and do a 2 day detail.

A few sickies will do the trick.

Essentially the driveline noise is from slack, noticeable if you are say coasting down-hill engine braking then jump on the gas. Some are fine, some have it bad, luck of the draw really.

There were some issues with bushes but mine has been fine so far after 18 months/40000km...touch wood.
