I need help from all you "gurus" with a rough idle & stalling at idle problem. I have a BA turbo ute, stock as a rock & came on the forum a few month back with the same problem and it was suggested a new TPS would sort the problem. I replaced it & really shouldn't have touched a spanner on that particular day (complete clusterf**k day), anyway it didn't sort the problem and it has been suggested an Oxygen Sensor is what's needed. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Tony.

Hi tony im new to this site but here goes anyway......... turbos run very high pressures and this causes thing to loosen up a little to sum it up quite simply u need to check out the exhaust manifold for loose bolts the need to be from memory 27 newton meters tight but u need to check out the correct torquing of these exhaust manifold bolts this can cause the engine to shake and shudder and rough idle issues....the oxy senor will only calculate the richness or lean mixtures and send that info to the engine management systems to sort out the fuel mixture it wont cause what your stating in your comments....... hope this helps tony ....Bill.......

From personal experience, I disagree.

I had exactly the same probs with my STOCK BF06 T idling very rough to the point of almost stalling, especially on cold mornings, but it then disapears when the car warms up. Took it into ford approx 8 times, 6 times under warranty to try and find the problem, with them having it for a week. They replaced various small items with absolutly Sweet FA effect. I cleaned the TB, checked all piping, changed the TPS but it still didnt fix the problem. Finally bought a O2 sensor from Ebay and,........................it solved my problem!!!!, and also improved my fuel consumption by approx 80 extra k's per tank. For the $60 I spent on it, it has given back my faith in my Ford T.

Yeah you cant go wrong with changing your 02 sensor at around 100,000KMS anyway...and they are quite cheap on ebay...its not hard to replace yourself either as long as the old one isnt jammed tight onto the manifold.

Oddly enough my idling has been ok recently even after 1/4 mile runs and a 1kw (woo) final tune power increase. I like the idea of more economy though for a $60 part!

Check your intake manifold gasket commonly pron to the gasket breaking and causing rough idle and stalling and it mostly overlooked as a cause the gasket goes brittle and breaks commonly around no 1 and 2 cylinder no 5 occasionally

good way to check is get a watering can and pour water over the manifold as close to the head as u can if the idle goes really rough thiers your problem.

winter was cold but summer of 69 was good ! :bopp:

back on topic, my EF wagon now has a poor idle after I done the head gasket, I reckon the fuel pump is tired (noisey) and also the fuel rail O ring may have been damaged as its hard to crank over and needs primed 3/4 times... oh the joys ! :crybaby:
