Saw a 50th XR6T ute at the dealer the other day, and it appers that the intercooler has plastic tanks, like the modern radiators. is this correct? Bet you its hard to get a mirror finish on black plastic! I know that it probably is ok, but looks sooo cheap!

End tanks only, not the whole thing. I agree on the appearance being affected. Have to paint it all black!

Yep, from a certain build date the turbos have plastic end tanks. Not sure about the F6 ive not seen a new build lately. Looks poo but rdiators hold more Pressure so the coolers should be upto the task. Just cant work out why they would spend money on the design change though. Save money? or to make sure customers have to change the cooler if they want to up the boost. You can bet they pop like the piping with anything over standard boost.

I think the latter James.

Most likely so they cannot have more boost through them then a cost reduction.

Apparantly they were DV tested to 20 odd psi (haven't seen the report, just the rumour mill)

This is quite simply an example of cost reduction - happens almost constantly. I can line up my June 08 FG next to my mates' Dec 09 and a fresh one off the line at 3:30 this afternoon and pick the differences. Some are very subtle, some not so much. However, it is ensured that the build quality of the car is not compromised, and all durability critical parts are re-tested.

I think it would be a cost reduction. The cost of tooling up for plastic tanks is exspensive, but then they would cost allmost nothing to make. Oh well wonder if I can fit an early FG one to mine??

Yep exactly mate. You'll be able to fit a earlier cooler without a problem
